I'm with Spearfish. We're getting a warranted oil cooler. That's cool! Literally! (Oh, Spearfish, it's a Nissan Motorsports one. Is that Nismo? I'm a rookie with that brand. I'm usually Mr. Stock.) Last edited by TheWeatherman; 05-19-2009 at 06:42 PM. |

Another interesting factoid: The High heat temperature that is used to calculate Viscosity in standardized oil testing is 212 degrees.. |

Just to play the devil's advocate...
When has anything you've read about the VQ engine been 'standard'? All I've ever seen about it is how it's extremely difficult to disassemble and modify, benefits from a special ester oil, has unconventional coatings on some of its surfaces...just to name a few. I wouldn't be surprised if the engine was designed to run a bit hotter than some other motors people have previously experienced. (ducking my head to avoid the flogging of ensuing replies) |

I have a question... How much is their thermostatically controlled oil cooler going to run us? Sounds pricey especially if you add the dealers labor price. I'm thinking between $$-$$$!

So, big thanks to all 73 of you that took our oil overheating survey... here are the results... some observations:
- owners with automatic transmissions are 85% more likely to say "all is good" - owners that track their car are 2.5x as likely to experience temps over 260F, and 8x as likely to hit limp mode - yet still, we registered almost 1 in 10 hitting limp mode only on the street, and 1 in 3 only on the street reporting temps above 260F In case you're wondering what "average disposition to nissan" means... that was the question where we asked: "TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE WITH THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT: Nissan has failed to properly engineer this vehicle and it does not meet my expectations due to the oil overheating issue. Nissan should take immediate action to correct the situation." '5' means "strongly agree"... a '1' means strongly disagree... this is the average score for each group source: Oil Temp Survey |

Harsh. Perhaps you'd like to let us know what YOU are doing to help solve the problem? If you're not doing much, maybe you'd like to be a little less rude to Weatherman, who is actually getting somewhere.

LOL...Just call the number in your Owners manual. Ask for the CS manager. Most OEM's have regional offices staffed by Customer Service people or possibly the calls are routed through the National office. The are schooled to schmooz the customer and work with the local service reps and dealers to also schmooz the customers. The service rep is the "Boots on the ground" and will ultimately pull the strings to get issues handled. Engineering issues are pushed up the line for home office guys to deal with. Hopefully, after the customers are schmoozed everyone is happy. Sometimes not. I was a Factory guy for Honda for 21 years, so I have a little insight....
