A warranty claim on my 370 - a big one ! - was recently denied because nissan found a picture online with an aftermarket oil cooler being installed (traced to me through license plate also on pic - doh!)... they may have had further reason to deny the claim, i don't have all the details, but figured i should alert you guys that the aftermarket oil cooler was part of the reason for denial, if not the only reason... please don't ask me to explain this further - i'm in the middle of a messy dispute... but just wanted to share, so folks get a sense of the risk... several dealers i've spoken with have also confirmed that nissan has a history of denying warranty claims due to aftermarket oil coolers... We need some official input from Nissan, but if you want to be conservative, i'd advise waiting for the nismo oil cooler, which i've been told will most definitely not have any negative impact on warranty...

Re a nismo oil cooler, i might as well spill the beans on this since nissan hasn't treated me well at all lately!... i talked with a rep at nismo a month ago... he said they are accelerating commercialization, directly resulting from the user feedback here ! nissan usa is paying attention to this board... and i was told that several threads from this board circulated 'nissan headquarters'

Finally, re oil pressure, highly recommend adding an oil pressure gauge if you're going to the trouble of adding an oil cooler... there are gauges that should fit in place of your clock - hopefully DDM or someone will make a kit for us !

yes, this is a cowardly pseudnym post... please just don't ask !

Sent my Letter. I live in Az. I haven't even reved my car past 4k yet. I only have 500 miles on it and i am hitting 250 degrees.

It's pretty insane that i can go from 180 to 250 within 5 minutes. I can only imagine how much quicker it will go up once i start actually driving the car up a mountain.

I think i will wait until nissan adds an oil cooler for the 370z before i buy one. Hopefully nissan adds the oil cooler next year. I'm certainly not going to add an aftermarket oil cooler and be denied warranty if something goes wrong.

Oil begins to break down at about 260 degrees especially when it's a sustained.

Does Nissan want to be replacing engines under warranty for people or let them slide on oil coolers which they never made available to us.

+1. A 370Z will be back on top of my potential car list once an oil cooler is added from factory.

It is horribly unfortunate that the 370Z has these issues already. I had saved up to buy one and finally found myself in a position to pick one up and this is simply a deal breaker for me. I'm thinking I may have to wait for a future model or for a recall (which is necessary in my opinion since I see this being a problem for daily driving in the near future).

"Horribly unfortunate" ?

Were you born yesterday? First year new models have problems. No sympathy for early adopters who are indignant about every perceived slight.

I am well aware of that lol. I was not expecting it to not have problems at all. I was simply saying I would probably rather be patient and see if anything is done about it before I decide to make the purchase. I definitely still want to get a 370. That was a pretty radical assumption man, I don't know what I said that made you feel like I was completely unaware that first year new models never have any problems... I said nothing of the sort.

^^ i agree w mcsqueeb. I truly hope nissan figures out that this is in some way or another affecting their sales. I talk about it with my coworkers everyday about the issue and those guys are enthusiasts who have other inthusiast friends that talk to them about the oil heating issue as well. A handful of people i know won't look at this car anymore because of THIS VERY THREAD.

Don't cuss the early adopters - they're the ones whose moaning makes sure the cars are put right for people like you & me!

I say Early Adopters RTMFW.
