Bought today, Clutch too late already!
 

The lease on my 2008 White 350z Enthusiast M6 ended today so I got me a 2010 White coupe Touring Manual 6spd since they couldn't get me an '11 or a coupe without Touring.

Anyway, my first test drive is today.
"I'll take it. But do one thing for me first: you've got to drop the engagement point on the clutch. I can't shift with my knee up in the air!"

The salesman confers out of my sight and returns "Sorry but it can't be done.Up until recently it was possible but now it's a hydraulic linkage so we can't adjust that for you.
OTOH, it should get better by itself in time"

Well, I'd like to know if the patience I'm being asked to show would have some chance of being rewarded. I've driven Z coupes with manual trannys exclusively for over 30 years now, and it wouldn't be the first time that I had to lower the clutch pedal in a Z. But I've never liked doing it: squinting where there's no room for a headlight, getting cramped and greasy and upside down -esp at my age.

So- I'd like to know if I'm a-gonna have to do it again, cuz the present arrangement is just not something I'm willing to live with. A "new hydraulic clutch" that can't be adjusted?

Please, Friend, direct me to the most current and understandable primer you know about that takes you through lowering the clutch on a recent 370Z?

How many miles are on this car? Usually the clutch take up on these cars will start very close to the firewall when new, and as it wears in will come up.

Yes, the clutch is adjustable but it isn't any easy adjustment. The adjustment is made by changing the length of the push rod connected to the clutch pedal, the specifics are in chapter CL of the repair manual. Given that the clutch should have been factory set correctly I would be a little curious why it is so high.

Mine fully engages when it's very close to the released position. It's pretty annoying. It wasn't as bad before I had the CSC replaced, but nowhere near as nice as the lower engagement point in the 350Z.

Thanks. The car has just 7 miles on it. As for the service manual, I DL'd a 12MB file 370Z_Service_Manual.7z but my peazip utility claims "archive unreadable- try password?".
Never saw that before. Yes it's difficult but I've done it before on a 350z some years back using the G35 thread at http://www.freshalloy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73620.

It wasn't a fun project -I was upside down with my head stuck under the dash for a couple hours!

Try using 7zip or WinRar, had no problem here. If problem persists try downloading again as the file might have got truncated.

That's a bit harsh considering that Peazip is supposed to support the .7z (7-zip) format files.

if i don't know i just google it, don't u? i get an answer a lot faster than posting a question on a message board

I did google Peazip and saw that it supports .7z so in theory it should have worked for him. More than likely the download got truncated and needs to be downloaded again.

Thanks fellas, but I Google (or Wiki) every question I have first, then I run a search of the forum with special attention to the sticky and FAQ archive... so my questions should rarely be trivial or tautological.
Then again- I have no obvious faults of any type. Just ask my ex-wife.


PS the most likely problem is a corrupt file. The hosting server "MegaUpload.com" is incredibly bad. The DL is very slow, starts and stops over and again.

But -finally- 3rd time's the charm... a file a few bytes larger was easily extracted by Peazip
