If your exhaust has a Y pipe or your looking at exhausts and it has a Y pipe, it's not a "true" dual exhaust. That's mostly a gimmick anyways and the difference between a good Y pipe or single exhaust vs a "true" dual exhaust can't even be academically differentiated by looking at gains. The true difference is sound. Y pipe, H pipes, and X pipes all have a different sound quality to them. Of course factoring in the rest of the exhaust will change pitch and tone as well, but the sound is discernible between the three and which uses what.
