What oil filter to use with Oil Cooler sandwich adapter?
So, on the stillen instructions it says it will leak unless you use the proper oil filter. The oil filter it says to use... the guys at UpRev say is garbage.
Any suggestions? |

Well i already got the oil cooler... just going to do an oil change this weekend and wanted to know the proper filter since i can't seem to find a local auto parts store that carries the Wix brand UpRev suggested i use.
So i just got the K&N filter that the computer at Autozone says goes with my car. Please let me know if i f'd up or not. I really hate oil leaks.. |
I thought the Stillen instructions listed "Fram filter PH3950, or similar". However, having said that, I am using K&N oil filter HP-1008. I've been using that since my first oil change (before installing the oil cooler) in place of the OEM filter. It seemed to fit the sandwich adapter fine, so I've been using the same since having the oil cooler on...running leak-free for 8000 km (5000 miles). So long as your filter surrounds the sandwich adapter opening it'll work...and of course, use the same procedure for changing an oil filter.

Yeah, the guys at UpRev had a lot to say about the Fram oil filters and none of it was good.
On a better note, i did get the K&N HP-1008 so having heard your experience with it... i can now sleep tonight. :D Thanks for the input! |
UpRev installed my oil cooler and it works great

K&N HP-1005 would be the direct replacement one to use with the thermostatic plate, and yes, one to use in a cross-reference list would be Fram PH3950.
As long as the K&N is sealing, that's great. But the HP-1005 or equivalent will have a touch wider rubber seal, and be optimum. |

i run the mobile 1 M1-110. its for a V8 nissan. its a bit bigger and never had any problems on my TT 350z. i have an oil cooler on my 370z and use this same filter with no issues.

I posted this on the Stillen v. Nissan Motorsports Post....
Here is a cross reference chart of all filters that fit the Stillen 370z Sandwich plate adapter based on the K&N Filter recommended by Stillen: K&N Oil Filter Cross Reference Chart |
So did you use the K&N HP-1008 on stillen oil cooler sandwich plate?
Any oil leaks atx370z using the 1008? I bought your recommended K&N HP-1005 and it is a completely different fit than fram ph3950. Thanks a lot Josh@Stillen -.-' |
So I tried to use a different filter, started the engine and sprayed my new oil all over the floor!!
After looking through all of the equivalents, none have a gasket as large as the FRAM. Unfortunately they are hard to find so I ordered a couple and will change them more frequently. Until I find something with a larger seal I guess I am sticking with FRAM :( Also, the HP-1008 is really small. |
