I am dealing with a serious clutch issue, apparently my clutch is bad per Nissan, and they want to charge me an arm and a leg....I am wondering why my "S" mode quite working while I was on the way to the shop (I just tried it out) If I have them put the tranny back together will this be fixed if I go with an aftermarket? any input is appreciated thanks

im assuming that your out of warranty at this point?..if thats the case and you have a burned clutch then the syncrorev would probably not work as well if at all...an aftermarket clutch may solve your problem but some members have had problems with the CSC as a result...safest bet would be to just put in a stock clutch..

actually no I only have 12XXX miles on this car...and I have read a lot about the CSC failing and causing problems. I have been dealing with this for awhile actually, but I got nissan to give me a break on some of the parts....but not after I called corporate, I guess the clutch isn't covered under the warranty, I thought my clutch would last longer than 12XXX miles esp with normal driving lol....but I guess I will see after I have them install this new one.....

ok i see...i guess Nissan treats the clutch as a wear part similar to brakes...well i would just suggest putting back the stock one for now.

i would want them to double check its not the CSC thats bad... 12000 miles sucks... im at 20500 and i beat the crap out of my car and even overheated the clutch doing back to back drag races to the point that it was slipping until it cooled off. still working now! i bet when they get in there they find a CSC problem.

Let's start at the beginning, what is the clutch not doing?

Ok from the beginning...I first experieced problems with my clutch back in June 10'. I was driving and I lost all clutch pressure. I had to pry my pedal off the floor with my foot. I got some pressure back after doing this, and made it to my destination. After I started it again the clutch felt normal. This happened to me again about a month later, but I did the same thing, parked it, and restarted it..and back to normal. While this was happening my clutch felt like it started to have more play in the pedal, almost like it was wearing down. I also read on here that other people were experiencing the same thing, almost like the clutch was being broken in. Then all of a sudden last month my car would have to rev up really high then after I would shift it would finally catch in to gear. So once I had time I took it to nissan, and they told me the clutch was shot, and it needed to be replaced. I couldn't believe this after only 12XXX miles and all normal driving. I have gotten on it a few times, and dropped the clutch only a hand full, but I thought this car was made for this....Anyway, they wanted to charge me $2800.00 to replace the flywheel and clutch assembly. I was blown away by the price, and told them NO, at that time. I asked what exactly they did and all they did was drive the car, and for $600.00 thwy would drop the transmission. I then went home and started searching the forums for a better alternative. I then came home and called Nissan Corp. and after about a week of phone tag they offered to do the inspection for free. I agreed and today they call me and tell me that my clutch is indeed bad, but they have lowered their price down to just alittle over $1100 for the whole job. The service tech says he is giving me the flywheel for free, and giving me 15% off all other parts and labor....So after some long hard thinking I told them to do it, and I guess I will have to see how it all works out........

Sounds like your csc was failing, your fluids were low or there was air in the system...
Should be warranty...

I'm not sure what they mean by the clutch being bad, but that doesn't have to mean it's just worn... You shouldn't be able to wear out a clutch in 12k with normal driving, so I'm guessing they meant something else.

Anyways I would make sure you get your old clutch back, so you can see what they mean with bad.

I wouldn't go aftermarket if the rest of your car is stock....

I dont know< I feel like I am getting the run around here...but also my car isn't completely stock, I have stillen G3 intakes, and Stillen Headers...but still non of these mods should make my clutch go bad....also good call on seeing the old clutch, I want to know what a "bad" clutch looks like...

No, they can't tie those mods into a failing clutch, so it can't void your warranty there.

I don't want to sound like I’m coming down on you, cause all of this sucks, but I think you need to learn more about how to drive a manual transmission. Can you not tell when your clutch is slipping? I would tend to think that maybe some of these clutch drops you've done may have been what led to the failure you are having now, especially if you can't tell when your clutch is slipping. Ever see the guy with the Vette that dosn't know when his clutch is slipping?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM3So0U1BMQ

And i'll follow all of this up with, I think Nissan should replace your clutch under warranty. The previous accounts of the pedal sticking should have clued them to the fact that something is wrong.

I would have to say its not my driving, this isn't my first manual transmission, I have been driving them now for about 8 yrs now....I could see that may be the problem if this was my first...I had to replace on on my last car, but when it went it was pretty obvious what was wrong....and I suspected my clutch was slipping when it would rev up then shift, I was just thinking that with my normal driving, that it would have been because of something else, like a CSC. I agree Nissan should replace this under warranty, but they consider it a "wear and tear" part....LMAO tho at that video..that really sucks for that guy...
