Could it be that at least some of the Engine and Tranny problems come from dealers letting someone run the new cars hard before they are properly broken in?

Nope, because I was the only person besides the old tech who drove my car for inspection purposes & I followed the break in.

Usually 1 mile for transport 1-2 for inspection I believe the remaining couple were from me test driving it down the street to verify it all worked & by test drive I barely got on it since I already 'tested' the Z fully.

addIn your case unless someone really ran it hard the first 2 to 3 miles this was not the cause. I just know that when the salesperson rides with an interested buyer they rarely tell the driver to take it easy. If we can get enough owners to respond to this thread, maybe we can at least get an idea if this is a possible cause. What do you think????

I picked up my Z with 6 miles on the odometer. I was there when they rolled it off the truck and drove it (on site) to wash it, filled out the final papers while they washed it. Then drove it home. I didn't ever 'get on it' until after 2500 miles and the first oil change. (Perhaps being overly cautious, but I didn't really have time/location/reason to go nuts when I first picked it up.)

I got mine with 2500 miles. It was the demo car. It was test driven hard. Just like i test drove it.
Go up a curvy road. SLAM THE brakes as hard as you can. accelerate as fast as you can. TURN sharp. do it again and get back. Ive had no issues with it. No oil consumption, clutch, brakes etc. (i mean i roasted my own brakes at the z nats track event) but just incase, I made sure when i got my car that incase there is premature wear on the brakes, clutch, that they would hook me up on the replacement. P.S why would i get a car with 2500? cus it was 41.7k msrp and i got it for under 33k. |

Let me be the other side of this coin. I bought my car with 320 miles on it. Turns out the dealership manager was driving it as his personal car for a week or two (I don't really blame him). It took me a bit to commit to buying a new car with 300+ 'test drive' miles, but I finally decided that I wanted the car then and not 3 months later. The engine and tranny have been fantastic (knock on wood).
