What I would like to know is with winter approaching are you guys still running synthetic? I haven't switched to synthetic on my Z yet.

My dealer tells me that all 2010 370's come with the Ester oil and that dealers are instructed to strongly suggest synthetic only. I bought the 6 oil change maint plan (it saves me about $30 in 3 years). The plan docs say that it covers only the normal petroleum-based oil. I called the dealer and got the general manager. Even though the plan says it won't pay for the Ester oil except for the GT-R and the Altima Hybrid, the GM said that the plan also includes Ester oil for the Z. The dealer won't do an oil change with anything other than ester or another synthetic you bring in yourself on a 370.

I have been using Mobil 1 since it came out. I swear by it. There was an article somewhere that said Mobil looked at Ester oil and determined it was a high quality synthetic not unlike theirs.

My problem with the Nissan ester oil as a do it yourself oil changer was that it cost over $14 per quart at the dealer when I paid the stinkin' 8.75% tax. I get Redline 5W-30 for just under $10 per qt. delivered right to my front door when purchased by the case. No comparison, especially when exactly what the Ester oil is (and isn't) is still being debated.

Valvoline Full Synthetic. Easily the best choice, in my opinion. Mobil 1 is overpriced and not any better.

Have used the Nissan Ester since June 2009 when I purchased, but its rather pricey so probably not what you are looking for.

Redline 5W-30. $10 per qt. delivered to your door when ordered by the case from Amazon.com. A Mobil 1 110 filter or a Purolator Pure One. Change the oil yourself. You'll know it was done right. The VQ37 is a high strung, hot running sports car engine. Spend a few extra bucks and use the best.
The Pennzoil Platinum and Pennoil Ultra is also getting good reports with the VQ35 and VQ37 engines and it's a bit less expensive.

For those using Redline, have you experienced any decrease in oil temps?

My Z is just shy of 10K miles on the odometer. I have been running the Redline 5W-30 oil since the 5K mark. I have not seen a noticeable difference in the oil temps but it never exceeded about 235-240 in spirited driving even with less than 5K on the engine. I don't think a valid opinion could be drawn regarding the oil and temps until car had a lot more than 10K miles on it. Many report that as the engines break in, temps drop a little.

Is the Mobil 110 filter a larger/longer size that fits the Z? I was just asking cause I thought the correct filter was 108. I still can't believe how small our filters are.

Just because no one mentioned it, I use Castrol Edge so far with K&N filter. Where are you guys getting the German Castrol?

My last car (E46 M3) had special oil: Castrol Motorsport 0-60. That was German oil I beleive and you had to get it from the dealer. There were some that would sell you them for about $9 a quart. I guess I just went with Castrol out of habit from the last car hoping some of the same magic from the M3 oil goes into Edge lol.

The Mobil 1 #110 is just a longer version of the # 108 which is the same size as factory. If you check the various filter guides, you will see that there are generally 2 filters that fit the VQ35 engine family (and of course the new VQ37 engines) I figure the larger one has more media surface area to filter with but isn't so grossly over sized so as to cause any pressure issues. Nissan says either size are OK for those engines, I'd rather go larger.
