Supercharging the Z

After much deliberation i decided to go with a GTM supercharger kit for the Z. Are there any add-ons that would make more horsepower with the supercharger on, and is there a realistic chance of getting 600 hp from a supercharger in the z without too much engine work? What would be the best exhaust to go with the supercharger?

If your goal is 600whp then you will need to be looking at a stage 3 supercharger kit.
Probably some upgraded engine internals
Definitely transmission upgrades
Exhaust, a good 2.5" exhaust will be best

Though a TT could probably a bit easier.

Would 20k cover it all?

Wow! Need a friend?? :rofl2:

To get to 600whp? No, that will get you mid 500whp with a TT setup and supporting mods.
Now, you might be able to run up to 600whp with that 20k but only for short runs, sort of like turn up the boost for a fun run then back it down.

What type of times would the car be looking at with 550whp, and can it be done with an automatic? What would the supporting mods be?

1/4 mile times? Other times?
There have been one auto TT done on this forum, I know of another being worked in Houston (have not checked on it in awhile). Just listing off things:

Oil cooler
Clutch
Trans cooler
Exhaust
Cats
General engine cooling - not a lot of room in our engine bay so it is best to find ways to remove heat besides coolers
Engine parts will need to be replaced over time quicker
Gauges - either analog or digital

This might be a very dumb question but.... are you guys talking parts only or parts + labor? If it was possible to do most of this work by yourself, would the cost be substantially cut?

If people could do this by themselves....cost would be substantially cut down.....and as a result there would probably be a lot more of these running around.

If you plan on doing all the labor yourself than 20k for 600whp is doable. If not than probably 25k- 30k. This includes a rebuilt bottom end......but get ready for some major headaches and expect to see the shop every few hundred/thousand miles? Lots of minor stuff will keep popping up...that's just the nature of a NA----->FI Z.

If you are new to this....I would suggest starting at a lower hp rating and doing a lot of research!

As a wise man once said..."with great power comes great responsibility"...haha :)

if you have a shop and parts at your disposal then yes. I would do it myself because I have done a turbo build before. Only thing is dyno and tuning.

ThoriumHotdog 10-23-2010 08:21 PM

Thanks guys. I'm coming from the Honda world where the parts for turbo builds are pretty cheap, not that we went to 500/600 HP or anything. :)

RCZ 10-23-2010 08:28 PM

Youre probably better off with a TT kit for that kind of power... If you want 600whp on this car though, you will need to build the block... thats gonna push your price over 20k.

KaienZ34 10-23-2010 08:33 PM

Just for a starting point on parts at least GTM Motorsports*::*FORCED INDUCTION*::*GTM 370Z SUPERCHARGER (TUNER) KIT
