Default RWHP Conversion

Hey guys, Ive been doing some research on rear wheel horse power as it relates to flywheel horse power.

I know typically loss is averaged around 25% on most cars while this percentage can vary based on make and model.

Ive read WRX's lose appx 26% and 350z's are around 24%.

Using these numbers (25% loss) my dyno @ 314 rwhp would convert to 419 hp at the flywheel.

Anyone have some input on this subject?

25% loss is far too high, it is around 20% for a 6MT 370z. I am not sure if it has been officially measured but I can assure you that unless you are running a forced induction setup, there is no way you are putting out 420hp at the crank. Unless someone cracks VVEL, 400hp at the crank is not possible even with full bolt-ons.

20% would be 392.5, still not bad.

At 20% drivetrain loss, 314rwhp equates to 377 crank horsepower. That is pretty good considering with only bolt ons you have gone from 332 to 377hp.

392 sounds more right.

adding 20% and removing 20% = different numbers.

On a dynojet there's a 17% drivetrain loss. For a Mustang / Dyno Dynamics it could be up to 19-20%

That's the difference in dynamometers - not the drivetrain.
