oh, i wouldnt have ventured that far out anyway, but honeslty, a lot of them are really incompetent on LI. I went to test drive a NISMO at massapequa. i had scheduled the test drive a week prior at a specific time. i get there to test drive that car as it was the only manual at any dealer i called, and its sitting in the middle of the show room, and the spend an hour trying to convince me that i can just test drive the automatic and its the same thing. then they spend a half hour getting it out of the showroom, and the battery is dead. if i stalled it, it woudn't turn back on. of course, i stalled it 1/2 mile from the dealer. 1/2hour later they finally bring a jump box, after first bringing just another car to jump it. total waste of time.

I said it before and I'll say it again...........Nissan tranny's suck. Wait til the snow flies and you need to find reverse. My last two Nissans were troublesome and this one looks the same. Nothing major, but annoying. I too have troubles with first to second shifts. Mostly when it's cold, but sometimes when warm. You can feel/hear the gears not meshing well but not the sound as is you're not using the clutch. I'll run this by the dealer and see what he has to say. Gotta make friends with my tech first. But it's true. There are unfortunately tranny's running around like this and it's kinda "normal" to them. My advice...... make friends with your tech and it'll fall out of the range of normal shortly there after.......... mine will.

I have the same issue, I have to granny shift into 2nd on hard pulls or it will grind. I don't track my car and I rarely push my car so I don't mind it.

Hmm.... pure bovine scatology! Nothing personal, but just where are you getting that inference? While the Nissan MT is not a Honda, it is quite good IMHO. Please give us some sort of reference to your comments.

This is just an assumption, but it could be the Renault influence raring it's ugly head and screaming cost savings. Only 2 countries in Europe have turned significant profits and one of them isn't France.

What would you like to know??? When I have trouble between 1st and 2nd it's usually in the mornings as I head off to work (slow easy shift). It's not a grinding sound more of a teeth not matching correctly and you can feel them find there way in. I bet you can probably hear it outside. It's not like an "OOPs I missed a gear" grind but more of a clunking sound. As for the reverse problem....... it sometimes has a hard time engaging. I don't have any problems yet with this car so I hope I don't. What I used to do before is as it sat in the driveway go through the gear positions a couple of times as I sat there warming it up. Most times, I had no real problems. I've only had a the CSC failure once, fix it and ended up selling the car (not due to the clutch). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're trash, I've just had my tanny give these quirks at some annoying times, let alone all the noises. Reading people having the same problems makes me question. Hope that helps.

Default Wow !!

I am getting ready to order a 2011....but after hearing about this problem and others....like oil consumption ......rattles...etc......I am having second thoughts......I had a new 1970 Z....and hear all of the guys on here talk about how great they were, and to be quite honest, it was a great "Top End" car....but was so slow of the line and so cheap inside the cabin that my friends made fun of it. I had just sold a 1967 ( 427 4 Speed ) because I was going to graduate school, and most of my friends had GTOs and Vettes. While in graduate school in Atlanta, I was fortunate to find the BRE Racing Datsun dealership North of Atlanta and have them modify my car, they were just getting started on what turned out to be a very long and successful career in racing. Of course Nissan was then called "DATSUN" and no one had every seen a Z car before. I cut the "DATSUN" emblems in half...making them read "SUNDAT"
I was getting ready to order a 2011 this week....but now after hearing all of these problems I dont know what I am going to do.
I apologize for getting off topic.

I have a similar issue when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I've had the dealer look at it and was told it is normal as well. My issue isn't a grinding sound though. When I shift from 1st to 2nd at low speeds, especially in the parking lot at school or somewhere like walmart where somebody is usually walking by, the engine or transmission shudders like it would if the engine were to die even though I'm still going??? It's like when you're first learning how to drive stick and kill it a few times in first, at least I did way back when, but in this case the car doesn't actually die. In another reply, I read where the clutch may not be fully disengaging and maybe that's what's happening with my car.

All the "troubles" you read here, not everyone gets. This tranny problem here is just a noise issue for me. It just seems to happen when someone is around and I think to myself..... this guy is laughing at me because I don't know how to use the clutch or something. I might whine and Biotch about it but still would buy it over again.

I have had my share of disappointments in with the 370Z's clutch (chatter, noise, vibration etc...) but I have learned to drive it much better and now I can really work it smoothly (I'm at 15k miles). It takes a lot more attention than your garden variety clutch but mine has been very reliable. Knowing what I know now I would opt for the automatic but the car is so fun to drive I look past the touchy clutch. I would buy one again in a heartbeat... Nothing else compares.

Every car is going to have problems no matter what one you buy. if you go to another forum for another car they will have problems with their cars as well. The 370 is a sports car so you will get the rattles and the road noise and what not. but over all i still love the car and dont not regret at ALL buying the car. im just annoyed with the dealer bc any kind of grind from a trani isnt normal. I say you still buy one i know youll love it just like everyone else that buys one. just my $.02
