Metallic Whirl Around 4K RPM

Hey Gang,

I'm having a bit of an issue with my car. For the last few days I've been noticing that once I get past 4K RPM in any gear I hear this metallic whirling sound along with the engine sound. It makes this sound only when I press the accelerator. It's only started recently and never was present before.

I went to the dealer and the service manager and a tech heard the sound and they said it may be a regular sound with the car (which I doubt since it wasn't there before). They took another look at it on the lift and they found that there was a heat shield loose and they tightened it. They tested it out and said it was gone but I've noticed it again today so far all I know they must have assumed they fixed it. I plan on calling them again tomorrow but I would like to get some answers to help them diagnose the issue as they claim it's a regular sound.

Here are my questions:

1. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
2. Can a heat shield cause this sound after 4K RPM? It may be present before that but I can't hear in the lower RPMS (it gets louder at 4.5-5RPM).
3. Is there anything I can deal the dealer to help in the investigation of this sound? I would like to get it fixed as it takes away from the great sound of the engine roar.

Thanks!

Post a video demonstrating the sound.

Mine does it too. Is this the infamous ECU whine?

No. If it's the ECU whine you'll know what it is... that is constant and never goes away.

Do you hear it best inside the car in first and second gears? The sound I hear is more like a ghosty whirl sound I guess. It bugs me.

The best I hear it at is at 4.5k RPM in second gear as I feather the gas. I talked to one of the techs and took a brand new 370Z out (soft top) and it made the same sound. He said it might be the resonance of the exhaust at that particular RPM range. He also said something about heads and cams but I didn't understand.

I guess you could describe the sound as a ghosty whirl. It bugs me too but it's normal.
