best oil for 2010 nismo Z?

What's the best oil to use for a 2010 nismo 370z? Its my first oil change.

There are many Oil threads. Most guys either pay extra and go with ester oil or another ester based synthetic. Like red line. but you can you use what ever you want. The only difference is standard oil keeps the valve train noisy at idle and the easter based oils seem to quiet it down, but at a higher cost since ester based oils are more expensive.
Try the advance search google search and type in oil. Good luck.

I doubt it matters what trim model Z you are driving. I am running motul but you cant go wrong with any oil as long as its synthetic.

Care to elaborate? I tried not be in depth in oder to avoid another oil thread as a search was already suggested...maybe some actual advice as opposed to a facepalm might help the OP?

The oil doesn't have to be synthetic. There have been many threads with tons of posts about what types of oil can be used in the Z - that's why I used the facepalm. The key is to use an API or ILSAC approved oil with the correct viscosity for the vehicle's operating conditions.

BTW, Nissan's ester oil is not a synthetic oil (it's supposedly a dino oil with ester additives).

Synthetic oil offer better protection and lubricate better, you decide if it is worth the extra money to you.

This is the reason why so many threads exist on one topic... everybody here is an engineer. I am hoping no one comes across this thread looking for basic information as it looks like EVERYONE knows API or ILSAC approved oils are key for optimal performance in the 370Z. Thanks for the info.

omg more speculation backed up by further speculation, excerpts from the owner's manual (which of course is the official 370Z bible) and oil advice based upon second-hand anecdotal evidence.

All oils are not created equal. You have to take into account their shear resistance, how their weights and protective properties are affected by temperatures and high RPM applications, and their detergent properties. There are some crappy synthetic oils out there that can be so bad that they thin out at operating temperature or at high rpms and the molecules start shearing which is when your engine will not be protected adequately.

A quality synthetic oil will resist shearing, have longer life, will not be affected by the demands of high rpm, and will be developed to protect the engines at any condition.

After reading all the threads about oil, I decided to go this route too!


On a serious note though, I don't see why oil is such a hot topic? It is a very basic thing. Pick one and stick with it! Don't get me wrong, I want the "BEST' for my Z but it is all personal preference.

While Unicorn blood is my first choice also, second is the Nissan Ester Oil. They wouldn't have spent millions patenting a specific oil for this engine if there wasn't a reason.

Millions to patent? More like $50k at most. I'm sure some serious R&D went into the oil, but that was probably outsorced at a Japanese oil company like Eneos. It's probably an off-the-shelf product with an additive package mixed in. Almost guaranteed.

Millions of dollars went into designing the VHR, not the oil for it.
