The line is to feed an oil troll that lives in his engine compartment, so no return needed!

You can try luring him out with a bottle of Ester oil, best way to find out for sure. That is their favorite.

Looks like an in-radiator cooler like most automatic transmissions have.

definitely looks like a coolant type oil cooler. a lot of toyota's use that.
the hard pipe are going up, not forward so they are probably plumbed in with the other coolant pipes like for the heater and throttle bodies. |

The unit circulates HOT coolant to the sandwich adapter, oil never actually never leave its current path. Why is oil temp such a sensitive subject with the Z guys? It's like telling a girl fat or something |

That's exactly what it is. Very similar to Audi/VW systems as mentioned above. Coolant is circulated through the round heat exchanger to: 1) Bring the oil tems up faster as the water heats faster than the oil 2) Provide a slight cooling effect when everything is up to temp. I say "slight, because if your water temp is 200 degrees and your oil 230, the delta between the 2 is only 30 degrees. Not as much a cooler as a temp stabilizer. 3) The only downside to this is that the Oik heat is transferred to the water cooling system putting additional load on it. Luckily the Water system on the Z seems pretty robust with a good amount of headroom so this is probably not a problem here... Here's a picture of a VW "Cooler" that also sandwiches between the filter and the filter mount.. |
