Default transmission problem?

I have tracked this car, and taken it to the drag strip once before. and have about 6k miles on it so im quite comfortable and familiar with how the car handles and operates. The last time i was at the track i would line the car up "since you cant do a burnout" put it in first.... the tree would hit green, let off clutch hit gas and it spins like mad as expected..... all going to plan so far. Now here is where it ***** up, i put it in second gear, let off clutch and the engine immediately revs up as though its still in first......hmmmmmm so i push the clutch in again, throw it in third, let off clutch and it does it AGAIN revving up as though its still in first gear. i was shifting out of first at about 6k and same with second so im not ramming the red line. I lined up the car about 4 times and it did the same ******* thing every time. but when i let the RPMS go back to about 3k it is suddenly in the correct gear and goes just fine. I have 2 questions from this..... first: does having the wheels spinning prevent you from shifting gears and keeping the wheels spinning? second: i DID smell clutch after wards, so you think its toast? i hardly see how since the car has been there before and never had this issue, and i cant get it to do it on normal road. I honestly believe it has something to do with the back tires spinning freely while i change gears..... but that doesn't make any sense. This has just recently happened but now i can actually recreate the problem at will. even after i went home, i got on it hard at a red light and it didn't happen, are you telling me i have to baby feather launch this car without ANY wheel spin in order to shift? enlighten me on the inner workings of a manual transmission, it was my understanding that you are LITERALLY with your hand mechanically moving it from one gear to another, so how can it be in third gear and still be in first? Also how much abuse can a clutch take? i rarely get on the car hard and this is why im truly confused as to why a 45k$ sports car seems to be incapable of doing the simple task of drag racing.

The clutch has overheated and is slipping (badly).

When you ease off the gas, and match engine speed to road speed, the clutch "bites" and transmits power to the rear wheels.

The Nissan clutch is not engineered to handle multiple "hard launches", it is a "raod-clutch" and not a race clutch - indeed, if you can "smell" it, it is clear that the clutch has overheated .... mind you, it seems from your description that if you let it cool down, it works OK, so the real issue is how to avoid overheating it in the first place ... I think you need to reconsider what you are actually asking the clutch to do ...

Me too. Why do feel that drag racing is easy on a car irregardless of the cost?
