370Z Downpipe?
Hey, I know that a lot of turbocharged engines have large power gains when the stock cats are removed and replaced with a downpipe (MKIV Supra). Does anyone have an estimate on a hp gain for a 370Z downpipe? Is there a 370Z downpipe even out yet?

By downpipe do you mean high flow cats? The 370Z doesn't really have a downpipe since its not a turbo engine. There are exhaust manifolds/headers, cats/test pipes, y-pipes, and mufflers. Or cat-back exhausts which replace the muffler and y-pipe.
Berk Technology has high flow cats and test pipes out for the 370Z that had some pretty good gains on my car vs. the stock cats. Those are the only ones I have personal experience with.

What I meant by a downpipe is a pipe that goes straight from the exhaust manifold to the rest of the exhaust system. This would completely remove the catalytic converters for better breathing.
But what brand high-flow cats do you recommend? |

Yep, that would be either High Flow Cats or test pipes.
Like I said, the only ones I have personal experience with on a 370Z are the Berk Technology High Flow Cats and I absolutely love them. I have not one single complaint. I have done before & after dynos and a sound clip video with the stock exhaust and Berk HFCs. Here is a link to my old group buy thread which has all of the information. The group buy is over now, but PM me if you want to order a set. DDMotorsports: Berk Tech High Flow Cat/Test Pipe Group Buy!

I have experiance with Berk and Fast intentions HFC's both produce gains and both are hit and miss with throwing a CEL. I have had both Berk and FI HFC's on my G37S and they are the same HFC's thaty are used for th Z

It will probably depend on your state's smog laws. I have had cars with no cats pass our sniffer test here in Nevada.

NYS will actually take an O2 reading, for example - same w/ Cali and Texas I believe. So if its a CEL that you can tune out and make disappear, no big deal. |

Thats somewhat new to NV. Even before the OBD2 check I have had cars with test pipes pass a traditional sniffer test here.

You still might might not pass the visual inspection. If they see that you don't have the stock catalytic converters it's an automatic fail on the inspection they won't even do the sniffer.

Other states like Nebraska dont even do bloody inspections PERIOD...it could be a rusting heap on 3 wheels, missing the 4th, and as long as it has a VIN it'll be good to go. |

In Cali though, and someone correct me if I am wrong, don't you have 6 years before you have to smog a new car? Like you wouldn't have to smog your '09 370Z until 2015.
