Can proper engine mount be a potential mod?
 

Hi Everyone,
I am thinking of having proper engine mounts on my 370z to increase stability and feel.
My friend's evo replaced his rubber mounts for metal ones. He said it helped out alot. His evo feels more direct and connected to the driver. The reason stock engine mounts is rubber is because it smooths the car out, making it more comfortable to drive.
But i want performance. A little rattling on the seats at idle is fine with me.
It is an easy mod. My friend's mounts only cost him $60 sth. Labor is $100 sth.
Has anyone done this mod? Any reviews on this forum? If so, where do you buy it?

You would have to do the transmission mount as well. Check RCZ's review of the transmission mount in his journal.

It could be a good one actually. I had stiffer motor and transmission mounts on my Mazdaspeed6 they made a significant difference in feel. Obviously no real power to be made, but it could harness some lost torque.

I believe his transmission mount was too stiff to be driven daily? I think that is why he just took it off.

I thought the Z had liquid filled mounts and one that was somehow self-adjusting...? Or was this all a hallucination? :confused:

Anyway, I don't think it's a simple matter of just replacing them with firmer mounts, and solid ones may transfer force in undesirable ways causing something else to break...

Yeah, there is quite a science to it. Unfortunately the company that was working on making us mounts stopped due to lack of interest. And the one that RCZ tested for them had WAY too much added NVH.

+1, but I hear Jnaut has a diff mount upgrade that worked nicely

I talk to Z1 today, They said it will take more time to develop something firmer than stock mounts. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Our stock motor mounts are already good enough. We barely have any engine movement under WOT.

I kinda agree with tongman here...we dont get much engine movement as it is. Remember that this engine is very coarse so anything you stiffen up near the motor or driveline is going to transfer considerable amount of noice and vibration into the cabin.

Solid Motor Mounts = Race Car.
If you want all of the noise and vibrations coming from the engine to resonate throughout the car then solid is the way to go. Otherwise the stock is good for a street car.

If there were a troque pro to be had it would be far outweighed by the con of noise and annoyance.

You need the magnetic self-adjusting mounts found in the new 911 GT3.

We have at least one self-adjusting mount already-- check out the specs, which are linked in my last post ;)
