Engine oil question :)
Hi everyone, I recently had an oil change and the shop put in Motul 300V 15W50 motor oil. I live in Manila with tropical weather that is hot all year around.
Is it ok to run this oil or is it too heavy for the VQ37? Thanks! :icon17: |
Nissan recommends 5W-30
I think you should stick to that weight. and yes thats heavy. lol |
:iagree:

Def stick with factory recommended 5W30 or maybe 10W 40. This car has enough oil drama already. You don't wanna add more to it. Just my :twocents:

Thanks you for the responses. I drained my 2 day old Motul 300V and replaced it with 100% synthetic Motul HTECH 5W30 because I could not find a 5W30 300V or any ester oil with 5W30.
I suppose it should be ok to not run an ester based oil? I have 700 miles on the car. Thanks again everyone. :) |
Easter oil is a huge debate on this forum some people will only use it some people won't use it...
Make sure your using a good quality oil and you should be fine! |
NOOOOOO. :eekdance: your losing power man and probably gas mileage too. thats way too heavy and way too thick of and oil.
Tips to improve your Gas Mileage if anything go 5w20. you dont need thick oil in a tropic area. Are you in guam?? cuz i used 5w20 with my scion tc. if your bored: SAE International -- mobility engineering |
seen you fixed it already, good job. :happydance:

In a hot climate the only thing that would hurt you with 15W30 oil would be start up wear. Once up to operating temperature the 15W30 and 5W30 would be about the same viscosity and the 15W30 would be slightly more stable at higher temperatures. But best to stick close to the recommended in case there are any warranty issues.

RX-8 had some oiling issue due to 5w20 being too thin. I would stay away from 5w20 if you do any hard use on it (especially with the oil temp being so high in the Z).
