wsup fellow Z ridaz~.. don't know whether or not this is the right area for this question, but here goes anyways..
i hit 1300 miles on my car and am now going to go full synthetic.. Which synthetic oil do you use? And which filter do you use? I know alot of the forum guys here use redline with a K&N oil filter.. Also, someone on here stated that PURONE makes the best filters.. i don't know. I'm a K&N fan, so maybe I'll go K&N My close friend advised the following though: "Just use a genuine NISSAN oil filter and Mobil 1 synthetic oil" I went to Wal-Mart and bought a 5qt 0w-30 fully synthetic engine oil for ~$25 and all i need now is an oil filter.. just wanted to get some input before i make the change.. ** Just fyi, i drained the factory oil at 600 miles already.. ** probably will keep changing my oil every 4,000 miles.. thanks in advanced ![]() |

You should have put it in the engine area of the forum.
My first change will be at about 4k miles with RP as i've decided to use ester based oils in the car. |

I'm reasonably sure it is, it's a Group V oil isn't it?
You got any info which shows it's not? Happy to learn more... The article posted on the RP site suggests that it doesn't but does it indirectly... but all the other wisdom on the internet (and yes i know the net isn't the best for info) suggests it has plenty of esters in it... RP for me, basically because i cant find anything else locally and its never done me wrong. K&N filter because its the best autozone sells i guess.

K&N is fine. I currently have pure1 on my Z but I have two K&N sitting at my desk. So I'll use those K&N for next two changes and switch to Purolator Pure1 for all future changes
![]() As for oil, any API certified 5W30 will work. Though, it's suggested that you wait a little (3000-5000 miles) before switching to synthetic THOUGH there are members here that switched at as early as thousand miles and no issues till date. Welcome ![]()

UPS screwed up my oil filter order which I placed two months ago. Then, K&N sent me two filters. I plan on using them and then switch to purolator puro1 for future. I like the pure1 because it's slightly larger as cliff aka "dad" pointed out.

From what I understand the Puro has a finer filter but this comes at the expense of flow rate (though still within SEA standards). Now the bypass pressure on the Puro is also somewhat higher then the K&N. So allthough it filters better just from a filter performance point of view and therefore does good in tests, I'm wondering how good it is for our engines, especially when you drive them under high load for a longer time. I wasn't able to find the exact specs for the two different filters and I don't know if this is correct, but this is what I found for similar filters: Purolator PureOne PL34631 * Average largest pore size: 42 µm * Smallest pore size: 10 µm * 30W 70F Oil flow @ 10psi: 5.3 oz per minute K&N 3002 * Average largest pore size: 63 µm * Smallest pore size: 27 µm * 30W 70F Oil flow @ 10psi: 14.7 oz per minute
