HKS Oil Cooler
Hi Everyone. I'm looking at getting the HKS Oil Cooler and I was wondering if this would be ok seeing as I only have 650 on the Odometer? I live in Manila and it gets pretty hot here. I've seen my oil temps reach 220 - 230 over some very short duration spirited driving and it looks like I'm leaning on getting the HKS Oil Cooler.
I've used the search function and there does not seem to be a lot of info on the HKS Oil Cooler and whether its ok to install on a Z that has not been broken in. Does anyone have any experience with this oil cooler? Is it ok to install this because my Z is not even broken in yet? Thanks guys! |

It also isn't necessary to get a branded (read: expensive) HKS oil cooler. I did mine with a respectable brand like B&M oil cooler and the entire installation cost me less than P20k. I asked Titaw of Titan Works to fabricate the mounts and lines for me. Call him at 4133911, he can surely help you with your oil cooler install. I'm very satisfied with Titan's work. I'm guessing the HKS will cost you 50 to 100k for everything? While you are at it, do a differential oil change as well. Don't bother changing your manual transmission oil (assuming you have MT) since it really isn't necessary, IMO. BTW, the B&M oil cooler and OBX sandwich plate was ordered by my friend online and shipped to Manila. You can ask Titaw what brands he carries but I'm sure a typical 200SX oil cooler set-up will work for the Z. |
Thanks M-Power! I appreciate the advice on the cheaper alternative. I will give Titan Works a call and see what they can do for me. :)
Thanks again and here's your rep! |

http://www.the370z.com/drivetrain-en...tomizable.html Check out the link above. My oil cooler install was done by Titan Works in Santolan / Mariposa area. I think the midsize Setrab oil cooler should suffice. IF I'm not mistaken, the Nismo 370Z front bumper makes it more difficult to install a single oil cooler(?), at least, this was the case for a friend's white Nismo (see link below, contact him for details). He ended up installing a twin oil cooler setup (2 small oil coolers) and spending around 100k or so. He got his oil cooler stuff from Emperor so it's all branded HKS (read: expensive). My install cost me less than 20k peso and has worked pretty well. I just got the B&M oil cooler (Welcome to B&M Racing & Performance Products!) and an OBX thermostatic sandwich plate from a friend and Titan fabricated my oil cooler mount and customized the length of my oil cooler lines. (see thumbnails above). If you're the type who doesn't want to get caught dead with unheard of stuff locally (baka pagtawanan ka), then perhaps spending megabucks for a HKS setup might be for you. In my case, I just KNOW these big brand tuners merely buy oem stuff then rebrand it as their own and package them nicely. I didn't want to pay for marketing and a nice box. What is crucial in an oil cooler install is to inspect for leaks. Doesn't matter whether you have oil lines made of gold if they happen to spring a leak. http://www.the370z.com/members-370z-...ite-nismo.html |
