cluth master cylinder out?!?!?!?!?!
ok... was driving home last night and when shifting to 5th cluth pedal didnt come back up.... was able to drive home wasnt to far but does not feel too good for the car!! have about and inch or 2 to play with on the clutch pedal. hmm... warranty going to cover this? :shakes head:
Were you driving hard today?
Hot in Texas, it may have just been overheated. |
no. was actually driving normal. thinking this is the problem because ive had to replace this part before on my civic awhile back and it did the same thing. have no mods done to the car yet do hoping warranty will cover this. :(
It might be covered under warranty. Another member last week had the same problem but we had a aftermarket clutch so it wasnt covered. GL
yeah i saw that. thnx and will update yall if its covered or not.
Sorry to hear..with no mods yeah they need to cover this for you..

 i hope so. the part for my honda was only like 70 bucks but doubt its that cheap for this z
Damn man, sorry to hear this.
Have you checked the clutch fluid level? Any noticeable leaks near the clutch master cylinder? |
I think that there is a vendor working to get some after-market support for this issue.
Edit: http://www.specialtyz.com/ These are the guys working on this issue. Anyone want to call them and see what their apporoche is? |

More than likely the slave cylinder. My G had a recall on it for doing the same thing. Most of the time you could pump it back up and continue on. Repeated hard launches and or very frequent clutch action like bumper to bumper traffic can cause a reaction as well. Warranty should cover.
ok heres the update. dropped the car off this morning and nissan called me back saying it was the clutch master cylinder. :( getting a new one overnighted from tennessee or something like that he said! still hasent mentioned anything about a price so im hopeing its covered!
Hi, do not know if the warranty in the USA is the same as for us in the UK, but had the slave cylinder and the CSC plus the hydraulic pipe to the CSC replaced under warranty at the end of last month, my Z is 11 months old and had 4550miles on the clock.
im glad at least they're gonna take care of this for you..yeah warranty will definately cover this...problems like these just make me hesitate to get an upgraded clutch even tho i want one bad!.oh well..

ok so heres the update. warranty DID cover the work. BUT........... knew this shyt was gunna happen! ...... send my girl to pick up my car and MAKE SURE she did a walk around and make sure nothings wrong with the car. she found a dent on my back bumper!!!!!!!!! i made the service guy do a walk around and check every little thing before i left it there... but he wasnt there when she picked it up so now i gotta go back and argue with these people. good thing i told her to check before she left.... i was stuck at work

This is very sad news, hopefully it works out for you. So it looks like the clutch master cylinder is the weakpoint but I'm sure we'll find an aftermarket replacement soon enough.
was this the slave or the master cylinder? Almost all the recorded failures so far have been the concentric slave cylinder or CSC i don't think anyone has had a master fail.
it was master cylinder. was fixed... covered by warranty. also... dealer fixed dent and buffed out scratch. came out just like new. those asses...
Just Curious, sometimes I have a Ca-chunk sound when I'm shifting into second gear. It has never done this before. Only 750 miles on the Z,did it first thing in the morning and this car has not been driven hard. I'm follow break in procedures. It will come and go, sometimes it s very smooth and no clunk feeling, almost like clutch isn't disengaging all the way. Its only from first to second so far, I can down shift from third to second or continue to upshift with no other problems. Anybody else have similar situation?
That's the very common "clunk" noise.
Try reving past 3-3.5k RPM and pushing in the clutch and shift. Either that or slowly disengage the clutch when you're at lower RPMs. |
Any updates on a company making a good aftermarket CSC yet?
i think this just happened to me, it's been hot in Atlanta. my clutch has to be pressed in all the way to shift. i have an exhaust and test pipes, i hope they don't pull that my warranty is voided.
Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Dont let em pull that crap, they are totally unrelated issues
attempted to start the car this morning, clutch goes all the way to the floor. :( AAA on the way....
 that sucks. goodluck. hope they cover it. and make sure they do a walk around when u leave ur car off .... dunno how they dented my bumper but i made em fix there shyt! ha
just came back from the dealer, it'll be covered under the factory warranty. clutch master cylinder as well, but parts won't be in til the end of the week. just glad they're fixing it!
I too experienced several problems with my 370's clutch. At 15K the clutch pedal stuck half-way from the floor, I had to pull it up with my foot. Took it straight to the dealer & when I restarted the Z to show them the problem...Clutch worked fine. At 24K..same problem, drove home parked the car. Next morning, Clutch pedal to the floor and stayed there. The dealer towed the car & confirmed he "Thinks" the problem was the master cylinder. 7 day's later (two days ago) I picked up the Z everything working fine and covered by warranty. Ten minutes ago the pedal stuck again half way to the floor and is engaging very close to the floor. So I'm finishing up my work, driving the Z home (If I make it) and calling for a tow truck. Luckily, I haven't had any fried clutch smell in the cab. When I questioned the dealer concerning the clutch issue, he claimed he'd never heard of any problems with the clutch in the 370z. Funny I haven't had many problems finding others with the same problem....
yep goodluck with that. mines did it again took it to dealer and it started working fine again right before they test drove it!! sucks.
Huh... Now that you guys mention it, when my Z had about 3K miles on her, I was messing around and dropped the clutch @ about 3.5-4K rpms to show-off to my buddy (who was in the car, too) and peel-out. Well, all I got was a clutch stuck half-way to the floor ,no gears engaging, and a red-lined engine. I nearly sh@t my pants! :ugh2:
I pumped the clutch severaland it came back out. I took it to the dealership the next morning and they couldn't find any issues. Go figure... :shakes head: |
My car is making bearing noise at idle too, I guess mine might have to go in soon
I'm not sure if this is the same problem I'm experiencing...I just started noticing that I'm not getting into the first gear too well the past few days...I thought maybe it was my driving skills...but I've been driving a stick for years and never had any problem...then as I was driving today, I was in the 6th gear, and clutched to downshift to the 5th gear, my clutch pedal seemed to go about half way without and response until I fully clutched it....I tried to duplicate the problem, and only got it once....but then it happened again several times again in the afternoon....the feeling that I was getting when I experienced this was similar to when after you had just changed out your brakes, and you need to pump it a few times to bleed it...it felt like the clutch didn't disengage until after half way down...was this the same problem you guys experienced???
same feeling... i'm not an aggressive driver either, but mine happened suddenly after driving on a hot day.
check your fluid level and get to the dealer. |
I am officially part of this statistic. I barely left the parking lot, got in 3rd, and the clutch sank to the floor. CSC failed without warning. Thankfully this occurred when I barely got out of work parking lot and head towards the freeway. I manage to kill the car a few times crawling back to the parking lot to call a tow service. The morning commute to work was completely normal, and I haven't had any clutch issues until today.
Mileage: A little over 16k. Habits: Daily driven to work and home. Never raced, dumped the clutch, burn out, etc. Spirited at times, but only on a roll. Environment: Cool weather and barely got the car warmed up. |
