100% correct. No modern electronically-controlled automatic or automatically-controlled manual transmission will let you downshift if it will result in over-revving the engine. Our paddle-shifter nonsense 7AT definitely does not let you downshift dangerously. I've tried... it simply won't.

Which is a good thing

As Jordo says, it simply beeps at you. It does the same if you try to upshift too early, which is really annoying because I go into M mode to save gas shifting before 3k.
