It's been 1200 miles and not one problem with Southbend's clutch/flywheel/pressure plate combo. I'm using a stock CSC with a bearing cover that works perfectly with the Southbend's offering.
370Z VHR South Bend DXD Clutch Kits for stock CSC I'm using a Stage 4 clutch with the billet flywheel and it's performance has been flawless. I believe RCZ is also using this clutch/pressure plate combo with a lightened flywheel and has great success with a SC. Unfortunately, Joe is not a vendor on here and not many people realize that 370Z owners have this option. He has also developed a all metal CSC that is in testing mode and should be available sometime next year. Tell him where you heard it from and you may get a discount

That said, I'm sure your flywheel/clutch combo is a good one but that was never really the issue to begin with as it turns out. |

I understand that the CSC failed on your setup with the JWT combo. I actually have one that I choose not to install and when I measured the stock CSC fitment on the JWT pressure plate I was appalled that anyone would install or recommend this pressure plate with the stock CSC. The fitment was that bad. It was obvious that it would fail, it was just a matter of when. I'm surprised that it lasted 10K miles. I had all sort of problems with my 07 350Z when I installed the JWT combo and at least now I understand why. I would recommend the bearing sleeve be installed with the JWT clutch combo as the alignment is much better.
This is why when the CSC bearing sleeve became available for the stock CSC, I checked into it and learned all sort of things. The more I researched, the more I realized the JWT combo was not for me. It was nice to actually find a company that researched and recommended a clutch setup for our cars that actually had real world testing behind it. That being said, I do know that the stock CSC with the bearing sleeve may not be the final answer but at least it gives the stock CSC a fighting chance with proper alignment and spacing with the pressure plate fingers. It will probably take years for me to find out as I only put around 5K miles per year on my car. By the time the CSC needs to be replaced, I'm hoping that a better replacement will be available.

I don't have a Southbend clutch on my Z but I used to run one on my (don't laugh) SRT4. It was a Southbend Stage 5 with an Steel Flywheel and it handled more than 10K miles of 448whp and 494lbs tq. Never had a problem while autocrossing either...of course I dialed the boost way back. Clutch never let up on multiple 11.8xx passes at 120+mph.
I just wanted to add a little input on the SBC and say they are really great. |
