Pennzoil Synthetic Experiences
I know what your thinking. "Oh God not another Oil thread". I just came back from Walmart to get my oil change done. I just went over 5,000 miles and didn't realize I was a few days late for an oil change. I was going to buy all the equipment and some redline motor oil and do it my self, but I don't have the money right now to do it.
I know defiantly next time I will be using redline and changing my own oil. All I wanna know is if anyone has had good experiences with Pennzoil. Or if there are any people on this board who have been using it for long periods of time! I was a little skeptical of using it, and I couldn't shell out the extra money for my own oil and have someone put it in. Would of been more expensive. Pennzoil was the oil they were using for all their oil changes right now. Your comments and feedback are appreciated! :) |
Did at least they used the correct oil spec by the Owner's Manual?
BTW, I prefer to pay extra and take it to the Nissan dealer, god knows who works there. |
Yeah they did. I watched them the whole time.

Penzoil Platinum is a really good oil. I use it all the time for my other two cars. Dunno if it'll be any different with the Z though.
|
All I can say is that I have a 91 300ZX TT and it is still going strong, and all it has seen is Pennzoil PZL, then Pennzoil Platinum.:happydance:

Pennzoil Plat. and Ultra are both really good oils. I'm waiting for next change to do my oil cooler and Redline, But running 5w30 Ultra and Pureone filter. Others who tested it so far have had good results.

Alright thanks everyone :)

I use Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic in my Z. I first put it in at 3750, did not notice any difference from what it ran like off the lot. Changed it again at about 9,000, I'm at 11,000 now. Car runs perfect, I'm happy to continue using it.
I did a lot of research on different oils before picking one. I think ended up finding the perfect thread by googling BITOG + 370z + Blackstone. Blackstone tests your oil, and this thread had all sorts of factual data of different oil results from this specific engine. Pennzoil Platinum definitely had the best results. Most of the posters there ended up going with it after comparing it with probably 10 other oils such as Mobil1, Nissan's house brand, Redline, Royal Purple, etc... For what it's worth, Redline did not fare nearly as well in those same Blackstone tests. I was actually planning on going with it (like many others here did) until I found that thread with actual data, as opposed to using everyone's "butt dyno" results. Having said that...good oil is good oil. I'd put Redline in my Z and not give it a second thought. But Pennzoil Platinum is cheaper (often on sale), available locally, and I have no good reason to consider switching to something else. One last thing. Pennzoil Platinum does not contain ester. So if that is a concern of yours, look elsewhere. It does not concern me in the least. |
FWIW I'm using Pennzoil Platinum right now in my Z, and I've used other Pennzoil products (although not exclusively) in other vehicles for years. Never had an issue...

I've read that ultra is only a newer platinum style oil eithe are great I just went with the newer oil, haven't noticed any difference and not to make it an oil debate but like stated has proven itself to wear reall well and rates high in comparrison to the others.
|
^^^^^so you went with ULTRA?? Did you notice any variences in your oil temps? thnx
|
FWIW, I know GZ3 asked about oil temps related to Pennzoil Ultra, but I want to point out that the only difference in oil temps I noticed was when I switched from the factory fill (which is non-synthetic) to a full synthetic (at that time I used Amsoil). My temps in stop-and-go traffic went down when I switched, but since then I haven't noticed any difference between Amsoil and Pennzoil.

Not a huge amount, but noticeable. I'd say 5 - 8 degrees.
