Nissan 240 Gold Plated Head/Cams

So yeah buddy of mine has a 1992 Nissan 240SX, and taking apart his engine (right now valve cover off) we find that his head is gold plated. Is this

Nissan 240 Gold Plated Head/Cams

So yeah buddy of mine has a 1992 Nissan 240SX, and taking apart his engine (right now valve cover off) we find that his head is gold plated. Is this something Nissan did to some of their cars for a period, do they still do it, or what the ****?
