I think you lost the point (and humor) of my question. Just leave it at that.

Default *Manuals still rule Formula 1

*F1 does still use a manual transmission if one defines it as using a clutch instead of a torque convertor to transmit the power. It is hydraulically activated, shifted if you will, but it is not an automatic transmission in the traditional sense.

A torque convertor uses fluid dynamics to transmit torque and will never be as fast as the mechanical clutch (never say never), especially when it is hydraulically activated. Perhaps in the future a fluid will be developed that will have properties that allow instant torque transmission but as of now that is not an option, so the mechanical clutch rules.

Here is an interesting article and video that explains the F1 clutch. Enjoy!

F1 outlawed them from using AT, so they make them as close as the rules will let them.

All these automatic guys secretly want their cars to be manuals. Just admit it already. No one that owns a manual has to defend it, it's the only way to go when you own a sports car. Automatics are just lame.

Default F1 outlawed automated shifting, not ATs

It was still a manual transmission with a clutch but the automatic shifting was controlled by electronics and hydraulics. No torque converter as in a conventional automatic transmission.

F1 outlawed the automated shifting and required driver input.

Check out this article in Car and Driver about the 2015 370Z Nismo seven speed automatic transmission.

Last I checked the viscous limited slip diff uses fluid as a coupler. You manual tranny guys seem to think your **** is one solid mechanical link to the rear wheels. You are wrong. I know I'm reaching here but the whole concept behind the mt vs at debate is that third pedal and not the clutch(es) involved. And if you really want to get technical, the 7AT has 32 clutches. So if the argument is over how power is transmitted, keep walking. And I'll repeat it again... Torque converter lock-up happens from 2nd through 7th. So on a base model with no VLSD and a 7AT (similar to what I had) you wind up with a highly desirable solid mechanical link to the rear wheel. Even though the sport gets power to both wheels, as long as you maintain traction there is no difference in whether one or two wheels get power.

Now, if it's about stroking that phallic symbol in the lower console and a third pedal, now we're making some sense because we are all ghey here anyway. Presto loves my ****.

Ugh. I hate these threads. When I get bored I always come crawling back. And all I wanted was applesauce. :/
