[OFFICIAL] Manual v. Automatic Thread

I drove manual for years and after driving the auto 370z I gotta admit, I seriously can care less for the shifting. I can already shift with those paddle shifters

I drove manual for years and after driving the auto 370z I gotta admit, I seriously can care less for the shifting. I can already shift with those paddle shifters and besides...The new GTR doesn't even come in manual and is push button start like the 370z + paddle shifting galore on both vehicles. Im glad they came out with the auto and definitely getting one as early as...this afternoon!

No street driven sport car should ever be produced with an AT.

Speak for yourself. Let people get what they want.

Performance and comfort wise the AT can't be beat. I will admit that a manual can be more thrilling...when you have an open road and no traffic. If you like manual, get one. If you think it's no big deal to you, go with the AT.

I hate people keep saying stuff like "all man should know how to drive manual cars and blah blah.." yea right...you don't have to...why am I defending automatic? because I have automatic. and do I know how to stick shift. YES I do. I got auto because my parents didn't let me buy manual 370z. yep it's a really sad for me. T^T. I drove 370z auto and it's really not that bad compare to driving a manual 370z. auto 370z has really great power and nice downshift sound. very comfortable too. It's just more fun driving manual because you can control the gears and more thrilling yea of course. So I just hope that people stop saying s*** about autos soon. I don't give a s*** about having an auto sports car.

Did you have to bump this thread? Do we always have to argue about this subject?

Look, imo, everyone should learn to drive manual just because it's a skill that can come in handy in an emergency.

BUT when it comes down to what cars we own and drive, I don't care what people's preferences are. Drive what makes you happy. I love manual, but some prefer auto. I can't fault anyone for choosing either. Enjoy your Z's.

To dudesky: How old are you that you are taking orders from your parents ? If so young that you are still doing that you shouldn't own a Z. Buy a Scion or something.

An automatic in a Z reminds me of the horrible late 70's and 80's when they offered the 280Z as a 2+2 and with an automatic. The car became a "secretary special". Like today's Miata.
Go tell your parents you are trading your Z in for a 6MT and quit being such a mommy-man.

I am guessing you are REALLY young and this is either your first or second car. I hope you appreciate your parents a lot because some of us had to buy our own cars. Mine was a piece of crap 1971 Dodge Cornet that cost me $250. I am now 39 and this is by far the nicest car I have ever owned! Anyways, auto or stick you have a Z and are a very lucky person.

bump

**edit**
OP, what did you end up getting?

Shado is absolutely correct that the ability to drive a manual can be a huge advantage in an emergency. Imo the understanding and focus required to properly drive a manual would be very good for these people who drive around putting on make-up, reading, texting, and adjusting the radio all at the same time in traffic no less. Different perspective.

I got my car brand new for a really good price ( almost 10k off of sticker -brandy new) and it has the AT At first I drove it in A mostly all the time. Since I learned the car I now drive it 95% M mode and I find it awesome. I don't feel shorted 'bout not having a manual tranny. I do believe that this trans is the best of both worlds. In 38 years of driving never saw an at that behaves like this one-enjoy!
