Sonic 370,
Most of the feedback on the engine oil threads appear to favor synthetic. The brand is personal preference, although it appears that most are favoring Redline or Royal Purple. The Redline has been purported to keep the engine oil temps lower (which as you will note has a very lengthy thread). IMO, the first oil change should be the Nissan oil (same type that went into the car from the factory). The second oil change would be the Redline 5W-30. Personally, I will go with Redline synthetic, but not until I hit 3K miles. My first oil change will be at 1K...my second will be Redline at 3K. Then, I will change oil every 3K. Everyone's opinion will differ. |

I've topped-off using dino oil (valvoline or something) and plan on changing to synthetic (mobil1 silver cap) at 1yr since it seems engine is not consuming much oil now.

You can mix any synthetic with any other synthetic and it's no issue, same with regular and regular. There is a debate on whether one can mix synthetic and regular oil. My personal research concludes it's no big deal to but there are some who will fight to the death on not being able to mix the two; or even go back to regular if you have used synthetic.

It is not recommended to change to synthetic oil until 5,000 miles.
Anyway my dealer uses Ester Oil for the Z and I have two free oil changes, oh well only one left. Then I will change to synthetic.
