Stillen 3rd Gen Intake working now, but ran into another problem
So I ended up getting the 3rd gen stillen intakes to work on my car but now I ran into a different problem. The service engine light is on and my drivers side window will not roll up sometimes. The car will pick up with no problem but there is the service engine, does anyone know what the problem is?

So what was causing the engine RPM problem after the G3 install?

Do you have a code scanner? You can buy them for really cheap these days (less than $40 on ebay). With a code scanner, you can check and delete codes. Or if you have a AutoZone nearby, they can check it for you. FREE of charge. Taking it to the dealer will probably be the most expansive option but if that's the only available one, then you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck.

I had both MAF's plugged in but i forgot about the other two sensors....it was stupid but i was working on the car late last night couldnt see. I worked on it this morning and it took me 5 minutes to figure out what the hell went wrong. I had the window issue earlier, but I got it fixed thanks to you guys. The only problem i have no is a service engine light I don't know why it is still on and again i tried to disconnect the negative terminal to reset the ecu but no luck I think I am gonna take it to nissan and have them run codes and see what they can do for me....because I have no idea what's going on.

Good to hear you found the issue on the install.. and the window fix as well. I've sent a PM, but the advise you're getting on the codes is dead on.
SES or CEL lights can 'stick' and take some engine driving cycles to reset themselves, or you can definitely hit one of the local autoparts stores like AutoZone who will do a free engine code diagnosis, or my ultimate recommendation would be to find a cheap scanner to check and reset codes, and is super handy to just have. As you move forward with your build and have a tuning option, a lot of those devices also offer code scanning/reset as part of the package. I guess what I'm saying is dont necessarily run to Nissan just to check the codes, as they will inevitably charge you too much, potentially more than getting a cheap code reader, just to find a sticky code for the problem you've already identified. If the car is running fine now with the sensors in place, it will reset itself. Sorry I didn't see these threads earlier, glad the install is in place. So now that it's functioning as intended.. thoughts after the install? |

Engine Codes
Disconnecting the battery sometimes will put the ECU in "back up" mode and will cause the light to come on. This happened with mine because I bought a showroom z and its battery was not connected. The dealer said "give it about 50 miles and it will reset itself". It did not. A code reader does the trick.
Also Autozone does not read codes anymore -- at least not around Sacramento. Something about CARB-blah-blah or insurance-blah-blah. Anyway get a reader like everyone suggested. They come in handy and pay for themselves fast. |

I'm gonna jump in here because I just installed Gen3's last night/this morning (had to stop due to torrential rain and darkness ) I took the Z for a 40-mile run to shake things out, up until about 20 miles there was a bit of hesitation at about 1500rpm but as the ECU learned (I'd say around 30 miles, just as Stillen advises) things smoothed right out. I LOVE the sound! And oh my the butt-dyno is giving 2-thumbs-up, it feels like there is a massive power gain above 5K. Gonna do another dyno run later in the week. And no CELs! I'm not even sure what the OP meant by "2 more sensors" either? The only thing I unplugged were the MAFS.

My dad bought this one at autozone, well to say i thought it was pretty cool. reads the code and can clear it. it also came with a program you can load up on your computer and you put in the make model year engine type and type in the code and it tells you what it means. It also gave the three highest possibilities on to where that code came from. Frank |
