2nd oil change: realized stealership messed up air pressure
So I had gone to the stealership for the first oil change knowing its not a good idea, for reasons I still don't understand.. got my first done at 4000 miles, and had synthetic oil put in.
Now at 8000 miles I got my second change, synthetic Mobile 1, but I went to my guy I knew from before with the older car... I hung around watched em do it, I guess its not that hard I could do it myself now on.. at the end of it, while checking the air pressure, they were all set to 42 - they should be set at 35. I don't get how the dealership service guy made it 42 and I've driven 4000 miles on that extra pressure. Why would they do that?! Worthless going at the dealerships. |

You should have caught this yourself... always check tire pressures once a week!!!

most dealerships will fill the air higher than what its supposed to be at so you dont have to come back as often for tire fill ups. Dealerships get way too many people coming in and complaining and thinking the car is broken when the tpms light comes on so they will fill it higher just to avoid any mishaps with the tpms sensors.

Isn't it better to keep it to 35 and keep an eye on it and re-fill it to 35 instead of keeping it at 42 and letting it come down to whats recommended slowly!
m4a1mustang yes I agree I should keep check now on! I've heard stories of those gaugues not being good quality or the digital ones not being accurate? Which one shall I purchase.. I would always just borrow one from the gas station with the older car. |

I've had good luck with regular analog gauges but some people prefer digital readouts. Its all up to you, but IMO a standard Bell analog that they sell at Walmart/Target does the trick. You can always check it against the gauges they have at the gas station built into the air pump.

You didn't notice? Spend the $15-30 bucks for a good pressure gauge and check it (cold) once a week or 2. I can tell when mine ore off by as little as 2 psi, but I've got a sensitive butt....

I try to check mine as part of my car washing tasks.
Tire Pressure plays a big role on how your car drives and most people never check their tire pressure at all.

So the dealership went that extra step checking other things than just yhe oil change and that's an issue? A difference of 7psi easily could be different gauges and the difference be checking the tire hot or cold. Also though yes many techs will set the tire pressures a few psi high to avoid the usual "I'm to lazy to realize my tpms light is on because my tires are a?? 4psi low so ill come into the dealership"

I'd like to kick nissan in the butt for changing the great TPMS system in the 350Z to this useless piece of crap in the 370Z. Thats right, I am too lazy to check the air pressure in my tires with a gauge but not too lazy to kick nissan in the butt.

Why doesn't the car maker itself say the recommended is 42 instead of 35 then :-/
And yup I couldn't tell the difference in a whopping 7 psi lol I guess a noob here. |

yah, but remember that you have to measure in the morning (preferrably inside a garage where there is no sunlight) while tires are cold. otherwise you'll get incorrect readings. if in the middle of a hot day after driving, 42psi is not out of the norm.
here's wat i use... |

the deallership's pressure guage could be out?
say it inder estimates by 5 psi and then they put in 37psi... or your guage could be out... all the guages could be out... go by 3 guages just the average out the fact that they all could be out... out? |
