Just switched to RP 5W 30 from ENEOS 0W50
Granted the ENEOS was 2000 miles / 3.5 months old but must say, my first experience with Royal Purple is positive, it is smoother at idle and it does feel better in normal driving, temps about 10deg less also normal driving here in ATX, prolly due to it being fresh but I will monitor till the next oil change.
Just thought Id post up, not opening 'another' debate on oil. Going to use oW 40 at next change, REDLINE I think to continue to see how this Z reacts. |
I noticed the smoothness with RP as well, but the thing was i changed from the factory fill and anything was probably going to feel better than what was in their to begin with...
Oil temp wise I got almost not change from the factory fill... I'll going to try Castrol Edge next and if i don't notice any differences then i'll just stick with that one. |
Just got back and I have a 'new' little tick from right hand camshaft area that is new?? its hot out but oil temps about 190. Its smooth but that tick is new...
|
so you switched from a super thick oil to a super thin one i would expect it run smoother going from 50w down to rp30w(royal purple flows easier than almost all other 30w hence the enrgy conserving II rating)
|
Yep fully aware of the range, not aware of RP energy conserving flow rating though.
Yes expected it to feel different, was surprised by how much, the ENEOS felt so good initially also. Pity about the dam tick, if it does not settle, I will dump it and go thicker once more. Any one else having cam tick on 5W 30 RP? bTW !injector pulse |

I hear ya, all good this morning . ;-0 Ill see how she goes, apart fromt his new 'noise' she is running great.

I could be wrong but i thought i read the tick is from the VVL system. And that the reason why you have to use a oil with ester is becuase it sticks on the VVL lubricating it better and removing the tick?
|
Its possible, but the ENEOS was silent, although granted a 0W50

I can not understand how anyone would be worrying or even thinking about a "tick" in this engine as a problem. I have NEVER in my life heard an engine that didn't tick. Carbeurated engines MIGHT be a different story, although they also tick a little. Fuel injected engines WILL TICK...forever.
I also can't see the point in running a different viscosity oil than what is recommended. I have ran German Castrol 0W-30 since 5000 miles, now have 20,000 and have NEVER had a problem - even with the abuse I subject it to. That's the same story for the previous 3 vehicles...2007 Altima 3.5SE, Corolla CE and 90 Camry DX. They tick. If there's some obnoxious knock or rattle, then worry and post up. Otherwise, if it doesn't tick, then fuel isn't being supplied to the engine and you THEN have a problem. Late, Trav |

6SP_FTW - lol but seriously thanks for the enlightenment ;-0
UPDATE 5W 30 RP does seem to have settled and it drives very nicely - oil temps about 10deg under usual with 90-100 deg ambiant temps. Z is on rollers to for a base line stock dyno pull with AFR. (this car has been modified and stock so many times I have lost count, so taking the oppourtunity to get a base while in current guise) I do plan to go to 0W 40 in a couple thousand miles and can recommend ENEOS 0W50, so 370zFORme - go for it, the motor was very quiet with this in the mix. |
