Voided Warranty?
 

So, I'm slowly narrowing my options of oil. I've noticed that Redline oil is not API certified. Does this bother anyone with regards to warranty issues? Doesn't the owners manual state that while the Nissan Ester is not required, you need to use an API approved oil of the proper weight (5w-30)?

You must use API Certification oil, else you do void the warranty.

Granted, they'd have to test that oil and determine it's not API certified. You also wouldn't have to tell them it's Redline and it's not API certified...but then again, doing such a heinous act would make Baby Jesus cry.

lmao, using different oil void the warrenty? If a dealership actualy voids the warrenty cuz of different type of oil, they dont deserve your buisness. Hell my dealership still uses my warrenty and i have intakes and nitrous and redline oil.

I bet the engine would run great on clarified butter.

I wouldn't want to make baby Jesus cry, but God forbid something happened engine wise and they do test it, I'd rather not risk it. I just didn't know if anyone else here running Redline knew or cares about the lack of rating in their warrantied cars. I did, however, notice that Royal Purple IS API cert'd with an SL rating. Isn't this an older rating? Isn't SM the newest? Why would they not have the newest rating available?

Your dealership says that now. Wait until you break parts due to your nitrous. I bet you'll find your dealership doesn't cover s***. The owner's manual specifies an API rated oil, they don't put that in there just because.

I'm not talking about the Ester stuff. I believe it says (as best as I can remember) that the Ester is recommended, but if not any API certified 5W-30 should be used. Obviously that's not verbatim, but I'm 99.9% sure that's what is is saying.

SM is current, and I think the manual specs SM or higher. The manual actually refers to several certifications - perhaps RP or Redline carry those?

In any case, I've used Mobil1 for years, and I have no reason to change. I've even sent a few to Blackstone for testing - but none for the Z yet, as the oil in it isn't old enough on it's first change (@ 1200)

OK, I'll have some clarified butter put in my Z. I'll gain 200 lb-in of torque! :)

That being the case, how would I comapre say, Redline (non-API cert'd) to say RP (API cert'd)?

API seems like a good baseline, so if these other oils are as fantastic as they claim, then why not get the cert?

Actually you should send in all your oil changes, especially the early ones because they keep records of your oil changes and will do comparative analysis of them for proper wear readings.

I know if my nitrous causes issues the warrenty will be voided, thats not what my point was. I've had 2 issues with my 370z that i had to get checked out, nitrous was installed but dealership didnt care cuz it didnt cause the problem. Obviously if i go in there with a piston through the head then yea, they will care about it.

But something as stupid as oil type they wont do ****.
