Well...
Uh...
RX-8 Cayman Boxster MX-5 Miata Honda S2000 Don't get me wrong, I love the Z. But we do need to be objective about these things. I have driven all of these except the Honda (taking word of mouth on that one), and they all have smoother shifters with equal or better precision to our clunky one. Just telling it the way I feel it.

RX-8, Corvette, Miata, 350z all had less clunky transmission. I guess the only one that came as bad as the 370 is maybe the GT3. I have 1200 miles on my car, the thing feels worse and worse every time. I know Nissan wont do anything when I take it back, but I still want them to document the problem before I replace the fluid. Hopefully it will be better once I swap new fluids in

Ain't it funny, somebody complaining about "THE 5th gear grind" as if it's normal? Couldn't be abuse. Naaaaaah.

I have a hard time seeing a 5th or 6th gear grind coming from abuse. Unless I am an oddity or smoking crack most of the abuse happens in the lower gears, 1,2,3..sometimes 4...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on the 370Z:
Triple cone synchronizers on 1st and 2nd Double cone synchros on 3rd and 4th Single synchro on 5th and 6th, hence they're way more likely to bite the dust than others. 6th, and later 5th grinded on my Z. Tranny replaced with a new (and IMMENSELY quieter) tranny. Part of the grinding problem is associated with me shifting from 2nd gear directly to 5th or 6th gear on occasion (which I have done in EVERY other vehicle I've owned and never had problems). Either way...this one seems much better, quieter and best of all, no grinding. Clunky?? Like the shifting FEEL or the clunking NOISE?? If it's the noise you're talking about, that is the differential mounts (which are made of rubber) which have too much slack. Polyurethane pumpkin mounts will help tremendously. And just for the record, how in the hell can you compare a tC (FWD CABLE-CONTROLLED shifter) to the 370Z (RWD DIRECT shifter shaft with no cables involved). The feel is ENTIRELY different. At least on a Honda FWD, they still use a solid shaft to control the shifter (which helps tremendously with the feel as opposed to cables.)
