Just get the gear and install kit from Z1... You'll pay a little more vs piecing it together yourself, but at least you'll know you're getting everything you need for a successful install.

Just to add my .02 to this thread... I've been running 4.08 gears in my Z for about 6 months now and love them. Acceleration is GREATLY improved. I don't notice it much now since I've had them for a while, but I'm sure if I were to take a spin in a Z with stock rear end, I would notice.

My gas mileage dropped 2mpg... But I do have a little bit of a lead foot shifting at around 4-5k each gear.

SRM works, but not as good as with the stock rear end. Downshifting while decelerating is smooth.. Anything else is a little "jerky" until you get used to it. Also during high speed runs (120-130mph+) the SRM will shut itself completely off and won't come back on until you turn the car off for a bit then turn it back on. Not sure why... Not a big deal.

Top speed is hardly affected... I can still hit 140mph easily (and quickly) with room to go. I don't have big enough balls to see what the speed is at red line in 6th gear... But I know it's FAST.

Traction was definitely an issue with the OEM Bridgestone RE050's... Even with 305's in the rear. Since I upgraded to the RE-11's... I hardly have any traction problems and the car pulls like a freight train. Best tires, in my opinion, hands down.

That is all...

Glad to hear that man. I'm putting my RE-11s on next week and I just got the gears yesterday. Good to know that the traction will be better.

We have hit well over 170...but we rev a little higher with ours
You should be able to purchase the set through Nissan Motorsports parts as well.

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and got a '12 370z sport 6spd and wondering if you guys have had any problems with the spacer 38154-0c000, I'm currently in the middle of doing my 4.08 swap with the list that Jnaut provided and wanted to make sure it's the correct spacer before pressing everything back together

Old tread, first of all thanks for the info from all you guys.

I know its been a long time since some of you installed the 4.08 gears, but I wanted to ask you about having a lightweight flywheel + 4.08 gears combo.

Does the car feel "too responsive and jumpy" for DD? I want to do the 4.08 gear upgrade but in the future i'll also do the lighter flywheel so maybe 4.08 is not the best option for me, maybe 3.90?

what's your input on this?

thanks ahead of time

I have the Southbend 13lb aluminum flywheel, 4.08's and an NST lightweight crank pulley and the car is VERY responsive but I wouldn't say too responsive. In all honesty, each of the listed mods aren't THAT noticeable by themselves (I did one at a time) but together that make for a nice bump in the cars pep. IMO the flywheel, pulley and gears all compliment each other. if you're doing gears, go with the 4.08's...I doubt you'll feel much of a defference with the 3.90's. Definitely not "too jumpy" when paired with a lightweight flywheel.

Do you have SB clutch as well? How many miles on the flywheel? Any issue?

At one point I had: JWT 16 lb flywheel, Stillen crank pulley, and 4.08 gears. Not too responsive, just fun to drive. Do it.
