High Pitch Noise Fixed!!!!!

Thanks to the help of bumblez and his dealer in richmond I'm finally getting rid of the dreaded high pitch ECU noise that has driven me crazy the past couple of months. The first time i brought the car in nobody could hear the sound but me and the dealership acted like i was just hearing things. I told them that I was 100% positive the sound was there as I am an air traffic controller and have my hearing tested annually. After that unsuccessfull attempt I PM'd bumblez which led to me calling his dealership and speaking with the gentlemen that solved the issue for him. They were AWESOME!! and explained to me how Nissan knows about the issue yet won't issue a TSB because so few people are actually capable of hearing the sound. They gave me the part number and told me to tell my dealership that Nissan is aware of the problem and on the Nissan Tech Line they acknowledge the issue and list the fix. It has something to do with the capasitors and ECU that causes this head splitting noise to occur. Even with all this info that i brought to the table on my second venture to the dealership they stated that the problem need to be reciprocated and they needed to hear it. This is where the Richmond dealership gave me the best tip. They told me to have a young female, if available, that works at the my dealership to sit in the car because it seems they hear the sound instantly and better then most males. After about 2 or 3 guys said they couldn't hear the sound I had them bring a young lady that worked in the service dept. to sit in my car. Immediatley she confirmed the noise and it was only then that my dealership searched their Tech Line and found all the information that I had already given them. Thanks bumblez and thank your guy the next time you see him!!!!

hmmm interesting, since most guys cant hear it, it mean the noise must sound like our wives complaining again and we are just used to tuning it out. lol. Glad you got it fixed.

If i hear it on my 2010 model would they fix it? or is Nissan only acknowledging 2009 models?

Csquared 04-18-2010 07:58 PM

Congrats, once I got it fixed EVERYTHING WAS BETTER.

cubarican84 04-19-2010 09:36 AM

i believe issue is solved on 2010 models. So it won't happen to you. But if it does, don't wait as long as i did and make the dealership fix it

they said they fixed it on the 2010s but i still hear it... or am i just "hearing" it because im actually looking for the sound?? oh god... i.. think im going crazy...

VCuomo 04-19-2010 12:14 PM

The real issue here is why was it "only then that my dealership searched their Tech Line and found all the information that I had already given them"? Why couldn't they simply have confirmed what you had already given them and take it at face value that you could hear the noise?

Exactly. I am about to go to get mine fixed at the dealership. Will post how it goes in a few days.

LUVZTTZ 04-19-2010 12:31 PM

Whine

BumbleZ or CubaRican,
Do either of you know the part # for the fix? My dealer is either ignorant of the issue or playing ignorant. I have to blast music just to drown out that whine...not a good solution.

phelan 04-19-2010 01:39 PM

^ ditto here, my dealer is being a pain in the ***. either of you PM me please?

I thought the same thing. I guess it just comes down to how they want to handle it as there are certain procedures they are supposed to follow. One of them being hearing the problem themselves. The ECM is $1200 part without installation. The real issue is with NISSAN. They should have put out a TSB on this but they figure to save money because people with sub par hearing don't know the problem exhist. Not until they drive with a passanger one day who goes madd because of the piercing sound pounding their skull! LOL

If the sound is present you will know it. There really is no "grey" area.

tjlazer 05-20-2010 04:07 PM

When is this sound present? I hear a high pitch sound from pass side engine bay when the car is on, but not running. When engine is on the sound is gone. Is this the same as this issue posted here?

Omg I have the same noise!!
My cars not under warranty. Will nissan still cover it free of charge since it's a known fault?

I'm in the UK

Thanks!

gstraw 03-27-2014 01:55 AM

Also is it something I can do myself to fix?

DEpointfive0 03-27-2014 01:57 AM

I got mine replaced. Holy jeezus... So nice

Theoretically yes. The ECU is covered under an 8 year, 60K warranty. So as long as you meet those requirements, yes. Maybe not the same for the UK though.

kittens 03-27-2014 08:24 AM

I can hear it a little but don't really mind it will it cause problems if I leave it how it is? My exhaust drowns it out anyway lol it's been a year almost

I thought it was from the speaker or something

Ace! Although does it fall under any of these categories? It seems to be just 3 years for everything

Nissan Care van and car warranty deals at Nissan Aftersales

Oops it's an 80k one! Take a look at page 9-11. Again this is an American warranty but it's mentioned. I'd assume the UK would have something similar.

I wish I could still hear that high.....Actually i hear my 2009, it's a whine sounds like the coils in the switching PSU are ringing, but after the car cranks I no longer hear it. The last thing I want is a bunch of numb nuts at the dealer messing with something that once worked, they'd fix one problem and create at least 5 others due to assy/ disassy issues.
If you get the impression that I don't trust a bunch of parts changers at the stealership, you'd be 100% correct.

DavidZ370 03-30-2015 02:09 AM

Holy thread revival. Didn't wanna make another thread lol, so yesterday I decided to clean my TBs on my 13, at 11k miles (there was a lot of shizz in there in case yall wondering) so I bolt those bad boys back in and all of a sudden I feel like im getting my ears tested at a audiologist. high pitched noise that dogs go crazy over is now under my hood, are my only options to visit the dreaded dealership? (god I hate those bastards) I tried an ecu reset too btw

BGTV8 03-30-2015 03:38 AM

Fark, for all these years, SWMBO has been telling me I'm deaf and she was right ....

So, if you are a man, and you can hear the noise, does that mean you are in touch with your fenimine side ???

Zoren 370 03-30-2015 11:02 AM

Can somebody make a video of this. So we can hear what this high pitched noise sounds like.... Im a guy and got used to ignore high pitched sounds when being nagged by the wifey.

DavidZ370 03-31-2015 04:08 PM

Taking it to the dealer Friday, I'll fill you guys in

DOOMMONKEY777 04-02-2015 06:45 PM
