Default Bought a 2009 Recently, should I change the oil?

The car had been on the lot for ~9 months without and oil change. I just picked it up with 90 miles on it. Should I do an oil change now or follow the normal interval? The first oil change is free at the dealership, but their service rep. said it wouldn't be necessary to break the standard interval. The dealership's service department is ran by clowns however. I'm tempted just to use the first free oil change as an easy way to put on a filter mag and a magnetic drain bolt.

Yes, as you can tell I'm over thinking this.

My first change was FREE as well so I took the car to the dealer at about 2000 miles(if it wasn't FREE, you can't pay me enough money to take my car to the dealer). How many miles on your car? I don't think it's necessary to do an oil change just because it's been sitting on a lot. My

look at the oil and see how dark it is. And find a good local place that will charge a decent fee if you dont want to do it yourself. You buy the material and they just do the labor, which should only be about 20 bucks for the labor. Look for manager specials on the royal purple and redline from the auto zones etc. I found one at Oriellys and got 5 qts of royal purple and a K&N filter for 49 bucks.

Yeah....Oil spoils like milk...You should never keep it in the engine for longer than 2 weeks.....

I wouldn't waste the free change...Chances are the stuff they'll put in is not as good as what's in there now......

Can we not confuse the new guy and make him paranoid? I mean, it sounds like he's a little predisposed in that direction anyway. Let's not make it worse for him.

No problem man. Enjoy driving the car now. As modshack said, don't waste the FREE voucher. Use it after few thousand miles later.

How dark an oil looks is not an accurate way of determining if it's "fresh" or not. Time, driving conditions, temperature and type of engine are the critical elements. I agree with AK on the fact that, even though it just sat there for 9 months, it doesn't necessarily mean you have to have it changed. BUT, for peace-of-mind's sake, I would do it, just to be on the safe side. Motor oil tends to get dark rather quickly, simply 'cause it's doing its job, so go by the 4 elements I mentioned earlier. Greetings, daleks.

All car forums are the same. some people always pick on new guys (ironically the ones who need help the most).

I'd only change the oil on pre-owned cars, chances are, they hit 220 without knowing it (or until limp mode kicks in).
