Can the 370Z be push started?

I need to know asap, can a 6MT 370Z be push started if it won't start? Its getting 12V and I think there might be a problem with the ECU/IPDM

NO! Please DO NOT ATTEMPT this. You will damage your 370Z. It clearly states in the manual not to push start.

I would try an ECU reset, maybe it will help and the car might start again.

Regardless of the manual, I would even attempt to drive it if it doesn't start on it's own.
Who knows what you break in the process...

I think the top line is for all models then below is the warning for Automatic models. Wouldn't the steering will be locked? Isn't the fuel injectors on the Z are electronic?

I mean, I want to know this as well but I would be really upset if the OP does big damage to his car.

I don't see how push starting a 6MT could cause any damage. You are just turning the flywheel with the clutch instead of the starter. Just make sure the ingnition is in the ON position (tap start twice without clutch depressed).

I kinda push started mine the other day just out of curiousity. With all the stuck throttle stories going around I was wondering how you would shut the car off in that situation. Turns out you must hold the start button for almost 3 seconds to get the engine to shutoff while rolling. Then simply tap the button twice back into the ON position put the car in the appropriate gear for your speed and let the clutch out. Voila, push start with no issues.

Now that being said if you have never done anything like this before DON'T TRY IT ON YOUR Z. There are several things that can go wrong if you are unfamiliar with push starting. If the vehicle is going too fast you can easily over rev the engine and cause damage (not likely pushing by hand). If your engine is not functioning properly the excessive turning over of a cold engine could damage things as well.

For me, If I knew the only problem with my car was a low battery or bad starter I would not hesitate to push start.

Yes, that's the emergency turn off procedure. Good to know.

Dumping unburnt fuel into the catalysts. That can damage them. They are more expensive than a tow!

So...just a neat little test on Nissans thought you guys would find kinda cool.

IPDM test, called the auto-active test:

Turn ignition ON with the driver's door open.
Press the door switch (in the door jamb) 5 times.
Turn ignition OFF.
Turn ignition ON.

Horn will chirp once and the oil pressure light will blink continuously.
Windshield wipers will run for 5 sec.
Park lights illuminate for 5 sec.
Headlights alternate between low and high beam for 5 sec.
A/C clutch kicks on and off 5 times
Coolant fans run at low then high for 5 sec.
Repeat times 3 and then done.

That is the IPDM E/R test.

Just another cool thing about Nissans.

Late,
Trav

Oh wait....I think I goofed up.

Same instructions, but push the door jamb switch 10 times, rather than 5.

if you put the ignition to the on position everything should function normally if you can push start it. If it's under warranty then don't bother and let them pay for a towtruck to bring it into the dealership.

If you turn off while rolling does the steering wheel lock until you push the start button twice to ON? That would be SCARY!
