My oil temps averaged around 190 while driving in the mountains. Temp was around 65 degrees. It hit 220 once when i was sitting in a parking lot idling.

Anything over 240 is bad. Anything under 240 is normal. This applies to any engine, not just the VQ37.
I doubt anyone will go near 240 unless they are on a racetrack. You people should read this and quit yet bellyachin' Motor oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I totally agree.... If this was a major issue, they would of fixed it for the 2010's.. Until my car engine locks up or falls apart due to high temp, I'm not worried about it...

in fact, if the Z didn't come equipped with an oil temp gauge, it would be a non-issue.

I open a Topic in the Nissan North America in Facebook for those that might have or having a problem/issue/concern with the Oil Temp to post there.
That way the issue/concern will get notice by the upper food chain in Nissan.

There will always be non-believers and skeptics. I'm happy with my SM oil knowing the above.

I generally don't see this car as a track car. To me it's more of a touring/ sport coupe for the road. It takes so much to make this car competitive for the track in my opinion. (Just my 2 cents of course) I've gotten to drive quite a few cars on the track so I'm basing it off that history.

Even though the thermostat is a 180deg t-stat, the VQ (along with nearly any other engine with a 180deg t-stat) runs a normal coolant temp of 195-210.
Oil temps are going to mirror that...it's normal. The only thing that really pisses me off about the Z is that Nissan installed factory donut oil coolers on the 3.5L VQ35DE, but not on the high performance VQ37VHR. My 2007 Altima 3.5SE 6MT NEVER NEVER saw oil temps in excess of 240deg...no matter how hard I drove it. Even though the car didn't have an oil temp gauge, it did have a factory oil temp sensor and I monitored that frequently with my Autoenginuity OBD-II scanner. Just doesn't make sense to me.
