VDC - TCS actual launch test

Went for a drive with my buddy yesterday in his 2010 370z Coupe with Touring and Nav. I brought up the discussion that's been going on here on the Forum about the VDC and the TCS.

He did two deliberate launches; one with the VDC on, and one with it off. In both cases, BOTH rear tires left equal patches of rubber on the road.

This Z does not have Viscous Limited Slip.

I am missing what you are trying to say. The sport package comes with VLSD.

Vegitto-kun 03-28-2010 07:22 AM

yeah the touring doesn't come with the LSD

The Sport package comes with VSLD, the Touring Package does not.

The test results I posted confirmed that if you have the VDC/TCS, you do not need the Viscous Limited Slip in order to catch even rubber with both rear tires when you launch a Z.

I might be wrong but isn't the point of the LSD that the two wheels can move at seperate speeds.

without the LSD you will always have even rubber.

yes I am tired

thegraylady 03-28-2010 09:24 AM

so i cant get the VLSD from nissan for my base coupe

You won't see any difference with a LSD if both wheels have equal traction.

StealthZ 03-28-2010 09:38 AM

the base or touring that are not sport have an open dif. It is not as good for traction as the LSD in the sport package Z's. I've had an open dif before in my 350z, and it would rarely ever leave equal two wheel marks. It was really bad for highspeed cornering too comparing it to the same car with a LSD installed. If you want an LSD, I would never recommend the factory VLSD, look into OS Giken or the carbon LSDs.

In general you shouldn't see any difference between an open and limited slip differential on a straight flat dry smooth surface -- given the tires are in equal condition. It should only kick in when there is a difference in rotation speeds ... i.e. one wheel is slipping.

Correct, because the sport package is a add-on package.
Base v. Touring are your car options.

For us canuks, the touring package comes with the VLSD.

StealthZ 03-28-2010 10:56 AM

And there is a difference between US and Canada spec cars.

Dr.Awkward 03-28-2010 12:56 PM

There is no base model in Canada, just the
touring.

SkyZ 03-28-2010 04:50 PM

yea we start with the touring and have the option to add sport or navi. you can only add navi if you have sport pkg.
