Just picked up my Z today. Before I bought the car I never took it out for a test drive so was not aware of the issue. As I was leaving the dealer and I hear that same noise that everybody here is talking about. Its terrible! So there is still no solution to this problem?

I've heard this chattering sound in 1st gear as I crawl up the driveway. I think it's the driveshaft noise. If you lift the car and rotate the driveshaft back and forth, you'll hear a similar sound.

My mechanic pointed that out. He said something about driveshafts having an internal balance. I get the "screws in coffee can" sound, and rotating the shaft back and forth will get me that sound.

Yea I have the same noise. I hope either someone comes up with a solution or Nissan fixes it or something. I am going to try and change out my tranny and rear diff fluids this weekend and see if that helps.

The supra's getrag tranny does the same thing, but louder. It doesn't really bother me since I am already kind of use to it.

Picked up my Z on Sunday and it has the noise when just sitting at idle. Noise goes away when you push the clutch in. I have a little chatter in 1st gear and when I shift into 2nd there is a slight noise. When going into all other gears there is no noise at all. My Z has 112 miles on it. Today I was thinking about this for awhile thinking if there was something wrong or if I was driving it wrong lol.

If its loud, its the gears in your transmission its not uncommon for transmission gears to whine, the thing it is Uncommon for a new car to be making that sound, its a wear and tear kind of problem that develops. Just bug the dealership to warranty it, might as well got to get your money's worth off the warranty.

I just started getting a slight pop/pinging noise when I first start moving in first gear and in reverse, but not any other gears. It's never happened before.... I'll rev it up, slowly disengage the clutch, and as soon as the car begins to move it'll be like POP POP piiingggg then go away. If I keep it in first when I slow down and roll over a speed bump it'll do it then too.

Anyone else have this?

I may have exaggerated the noise. Its not super loud and its like a few metallic pops. It only happens when I left the clutch engage with little or no gas while rolling or I don't rev up that high. The higher I rev the quieter it is, but its definetely new and a little annoying. Its the most noticable when I'm driving through my apartment complex and I'm alone/going slow because of speed bumps etc.

when you say metallic pops it kind of scares me lol. i'd love to help you out by going out and getting into my Zed but it's out of commission after it was hit for a few days.

What are you going to warranty ??? Another new clunky transmission.

The transmission sucks from 1st to 2nd.....pretty close to being all butter from that point.

Up the revs a bit and start off in 2nd and you won't have to deal with it anymore.

Usually gets a bit better when things warm up.

Just picked mine up this afternoon and already heard the noise as in crbn_fbr's video. Going back to the dealer on Monday. It sounds like a worn out 300K miles trans. Unacceptable for a new car!
