1. Clutch chatter - turned out to be a presure plate adjustment was required. 2. A similar but lesser volume chatter - turned out to be the carbon-fiber drive-shaft when it spins and was something that was not fixable....its the physical nature of carbon-fiber in shaft shapes when thye spin..they vibrate. 3. The shrill-like whine in 1st gear - usually an indication that the gears are not shimmed properly however most all 350Z and 370Z I have owned or been around have this shrill whine in 1st gear. It is so prevalent that I am beginning to think it is a normal sound. My 370Z has #2 and #3 but I don't bother endlessly searching trying to chase these things down as there doesn't appear to be any damage occurring on ones that have been examined in the shop, including my 350Z that I once took in. |

Everyone hearing this noise, did u have a break-in period? I'm doing a 3,000 mile break-in. I'm being quite cautious. I was wondering how you'll are driving your vehicles.

doesn't matter how you break it in. its a 'natural' sound to the Z tranny

i just picked up my car yesterday and i have the same problem. it's not too much the noise that's bothering me, but the FEEL like there's some kind of slop in the driveline. it shakes and shudders and clunks. if you dont disengage the clutch just right, it feels like the entire tranny is moving and shaking around under the car.
my '99 miata had a very similar problem (although much worse), and it annoyed me so much that i'm gonna sell it. some ppl have mentioned that their wrx has a similar problem, but mine has been perfect. i *love* the clutch feel on my wrx compared to this car. it feels tight and connected the pedal pressure is just heavy enough (the 370 pedal feels way too light to me). |

most people are talking about the noise. but the thing that bugs me most is actually the *feel* that something's shaking and moving around underneath the car. it's the feel of "slop" and "free-play" and "jerkiness" somewhere in the driveline when the clutch is engaged and disengaged, and even while in gear. (esp. when you're driving slowly).
i guess i'll try to just ignore it since from what everyone's saying, it's probably "natural" for this car. but it sure is annoying... |

well my car is at the dealer right now. Will be until Monday when a nissan engineer will be sent out from "hq". All the techs heard the noise, but no one knows what it is. They drove 2 other 370s on the lot; both didn't click and pop like mine does.
I'll keep everyone updated. As of now, nissan is covering a loaner for me and everything. |

these noises as stated are normal. You CAN make them go away by changing your driving habits. A more smooth transition of depressing the clutch makes the noise go away. When you're shifting into 2nd, instead of just completely letting go of the gas abruptly, try transitioning smoothly. Let go of the gas in a very smooth gradual decreasing manner and then push the clutch as soon as it's completely off the gas. You won't hear the noise anymore. I can replicate this and make it go away as well. The Z is not the only car that's had this noise. It's just the nature of the tranny.

Those noises are actually a common thing on all Z! A 350z has the same exact noise when its in idle or so, Im assuming because we have a huge transmission thats why its like that! But hey, if its ur first time hearing it then just get use to it! im very much use to my car already!

finding this thread made me relax lol
i guess its your smoothness that matters here. the smoother you are the less noise you hear. i use to have the noise from the video when i first got the car but now i learned that if you dont rev the car enuff before letting go of the clutch the car will make that grinding noise. so you have to rev it above 1.5 k for it to not make that noise. all those noises are making me feel depressed because i feel like im doing something wrong all the time but im not |
