Oil Cooler Experiences
I'm thinking of getting an oil cooler for my 370z. Z1 Motorsports shows 3 coolers, (Setrab) 19 row, 25 row, and 34 row. I'm thinking of the 19 row and maybe the 25 row cooler.
Anyone do this or have any experience with it? If so, what temps did you see? Ernie ecarneau@comcast.net :driving: |
Search, my man, search. Lots of threads on this.
In short summary, you don't need an oil cooler if you're just doing routine street driving in most climates. If you are an aggressive street driver in hot weather, the 19 row should do you well. Those who have tracked the 19 row in hot weather still pulled temps of 260ish and opted for the 25 row. I'm not sure if anyone has really gone with a 34 row. |
Cooler weather will require a shield of sorts to block the oil cooler during daily driving. ~40 degree weather (driving on the road) and my oil temp would not go over 160, even with the thermostatic sandwich plate offered by GTM. ~60-65 degrees at the track (Pacific Raceways) and I was a hair away from 260.
Style of driving has a lot to do with the need for the cooler. A daily driver in the NW most likely will not need an oil cooler. If you track the car then an oil cooler is pretty necessary, how big or how many rows I'm not sure. |
