AN fitting movement / rotation on Oil Cooler Lines?
Are the AN fittings supposed to be able to rotate freely? What about the steel braided hose connection to the AN fitting itself?
Also, I can completely rotate the hose while holding the AN fitting portion with a wrench. Is that normal as well?

DAMN IT!! The GTM line just burst exactly like Tardcore's did. I KNEW I shouldn't have bought that kit from him!! It is definitely the lines that GTM supplies, as I really thought it was odd that the hose itself would rotate freely from the AN fitting itself. I doubt that GTM will do anything though, as I bought the used kit from Tardcore.
Prior to it bursting, I took these pics just minutes before I started the engine. You can barely see the seepage, but it builds up where the hose and AN fitting meet. This is what it looks like when it burst, once I started the engine: You can actually see the oil dripping still:

When Tardcore's called us saying that the hose we supplied with the oil cooler kit has burst, we assumed responsibly and send a new hose with a return shipping label for the old hose. Upon inspecting the hose we got back, we discovered that the hose has been shorten, we order thees lines pre-cut to an exact length . if you shorten the line and you don't have any experience in reassembling this type of parts, the line will come apart . and this exactly what happened in Tardcore's case . so what burst right now is line that was taking part and shorten by the original purchaser. and this is the only reason why you would have a line that is a lot longer then the other one, per you pm.

Shouldn't the oil lines run underneath the sway bar? Whenever the car moves down (and the sway bar moves up) the bar pushes against the lines, resulting in the line pulling on the fitting?

so what GTM is saying is tardcore screwed with his lines? can we get his opinion on that because i swear to god if my lines blow on my GTM sometime after i install it there will be a very pissed of man knocking on sam's front door. if tardcore screwed with the lines then i'll feel better, and care less that he hates his car and thinks he should have gotten a vette, then i currently do (which isn't a whole lot).

Either way, how much will it cost for a new set of lines?

The angle at which the lines are supplied you can not run them underneath the sway bar. Trust me, I have plenty of length for it to adjust with the movement of the car. In fact, these lines blew upon turning the car on .. and not while driving the vehicle. Thus, no stress was tension placed on the lines at all. That further proves GTM's point that it appears the length of the lines were altered. I just assumed that what Tardcore gave me was in working order and without alteration from what GTM supplied.

I am going to order a new set of lines from GTM and I expect that everything should be in working order upon the 2nd time around. I kept thinking to myself that it was odd that the lines themselves could rotate freely from the AN fitting. I drove it for one day after the initial installation, and check the lines and that was when I noticed the seepage. I double checked to make sure everything was snug. I even posted on the forums asking if there should be a specific torque needed on the AN fittings. I was beginning to think that the seepage was normal, until I turned the car on and actually heard the "pwhoosh" sound of something popping and the gurgling noise of the oil spraying everywhere. I guess I can be thankful that this happened in my garage and not out on the road somewhere (my wife may think otherwise due to all of the oil on the garage floor .. but oh well).

Apparently that's the case. Whomever assembled or reassembled the AN fittings did not have a CLUE as to what they were doing.
Shame you had to be victim #2. Stainless lines just do not come apart unless done incorrectly. Last edited by Modshack; 03-10-2010 at 02:18 PM. |

Good point. The thing is that line is sooo long. I guess I can switch it to the other side to help take up some of the extra slack, and perhaps just need the short line from GTM. It just still bothers me that the line just came off like that .. it makes me wonder whether he attempted to alter the "new" line as well. I should have taken more pictures of the items received as well as the installation. At one point, early in the process, I did think it was odd that the nut portion of the AN fittings appeared to worn a bit .. but I passed it off as normal wear from installation and removal.
