2nd Gear Issue... Need Help
My Nismo had 60 miles on it when I bought it from the dealer and I was worried that it may have been taken for a ride or two before I picked it up. Lots of people on here talk about the shift from 1st to second being stiff, but I have found that 2nd gear does not seem to grab as hard as it should. I went to another dealer this past weekend and test drove the only manual they had on the lot (non-sport) to compare and 2nd gear grabbed very nicely from 1st to second. Should I be concerned that someone ate up the clutch on a test drive or am I just being paranoid? I really have to pause for a second right when the clutch starts to grab and am not able to release as quickly as I feel like I should. The 6sp non-sport I drove, fell into gear much more easily.

Without really driving your car myself i couldnt tell you for sure but i notice at higher rpm you can shift into 2nd and let out the clutch faster.. lower rpm you have to let out the clutch slower and smoother for the car to be smooth its just how it is with this car. Your car is most likely fine. 60 miles is nothing and i wouldnt worry about it.

I agree that all gears feel a bit more "mushy" in the lower RPM range. It sounds to me like you are having normal synchro issues that plague Nissan transmissions. Mine is the very same way and also has a very "high" pedal engagement. It is my opinion that we will be seeing some upgraded revisions of transmissions in the 370 just as we saw in the 350.
In the meantime, drive the piss out of your car and don't worry. It's under warranty. :) |
