What oil temp is considered warmed up?

At what oil temp do you guys usually warm up to before you start any spirited driving?

Just wait til the needle starts moving. 140-ish

I like to get it up to 180 before I start any hard driving.

vipor 03-05-2010 08:36 AM

With my cooler I have to be in traffic or on the track to hit 180 lol.

No thermostat?

vipor 03-05-2010 09:37 AM

Themostatic Plates aren't 100%, there's always flow. They're 100% open at their specified temp, but they're never 0%.

But won't they be ~90% closed or so below 180* ?

180 before reving more than 4500rpm

Chupacabra 03-05-2010 01:06 PM

160 and ill red line the car... two-three of those klong shifts and it will be nice and ready.

180 before I accelerate hard.
With the thermostats, the path to the oil cooler is always 100% open. It is the direct path through the filter that closes as the temperature increases, forcing more of the oil through the cooler.

Really................? Go to your local parts store and purchase one and take it home and put it in a pan of water. Put a candy Thermometer in with it and turn on the heat. Watch what happens when you play with the amount of heat. I believe you'll be surprised...............!
