I think they were quoting us around $185 for the race version, $155 for comfort.

RCZ 02-23-2010 09:14 PM

^ if they quote us that much I will laugh and get them made somewhere else.

I had "unabombers sexy rear end" actually and it was one of the best mods I ever did to the sti.

Yup I had it on mine too along with the TiC super shifter kit or whatever it was called. I LOVED that shifter.

Yep I had that too, it was epic. I wish the Z felt half as good as that.

RCZ, you have a PM. :)

For example in those low speed on/off throttle situations you can hear the whole thing rocking back and forth with the load. This was also a big problem for the subaru folks, but it can definitely be fixed with some urethane bushing upgrades.

I wonder if it was done to keep NVH down..I'm sick and tired of it though.

If any vendors want to develop urethane bushings. I would be willing to help + test.

Discuss.

IMHO, I wouldn't try and "stiffen" it any. Unless you're racing and your threshold for that kind of movement is low. BTW, I've never noticed any of this "movement" or "rocking" motions you talk about. I do notice there is some "feel" on the shifter being transmitted under load. But IMO, normal.

Whats your reason for not stiffening it any?
What is the downside, other than a little more NVH, to stiffening up bushings?

Everything feels better and reacts better. Also, you know that jerking motion you get when your letting off the gas in 1st? Yeah that gets minimized too.

Also you get rid of the shifting clunk...

Those are the exact reasons why I would be IN for this mod. If one has to go through "stop and go" traffic, or that slow movement of traffic know that "jerky" feeling all too well. As RCZ explained above, if you are moving forward slowly in 1st gear, but never get up to a speed to shift into 2nd, and instead the traffic begins to slow down in front of you, so you let off the gas .. THAT is when you feel that lag / jerk / lunge forward. It becomes even more pronounced if as you are going through that slow-down jerk, that traffic begins to move a little and you engage the gas to catch up.. then it is a WTF moment of jerkiness, as if you've never driven a MT before. So, yes, I am definitely IN on purchasing this mod. Note that prior to RCZ explaining this, I did not know that is what this mod would help to fix / reduce, and thus never chimed in on the earlier "development" period thread.

RCZ 02-26-2010 12:42 PM

It definitely helps a lot, but its a combination of all the bushings in the drivetrain that will minimize that effect. There are lots of soft rubbery bushings down there for the folks who like to be as comfortable as possible. All those need to go.

TipsZ 03-05-2010 04:37 PM

So whats the deal RCZ? How difficult is it to upgrade something like this?

RCZ 03-06-2010 10:24 PM

Check my journal thread.

I have pics and everything, but I don't want to say anything until I get some info back from Z1 Performance.

The actual install takes about 10 minutes.
