Default Wheelspin in the wet. Slip light doesn't flash.

It was pretty wet/rainy out on the way to work today. I decided to test out the vdc system. I was rolling in 2nd gear at about 30-40mph, I went close to WOT and I noticed the rear wheels break loose. The rear pitched a little to the left, but the slip indicator light didn't come on and it didn't feel as if VDC engaged at all. I tried multiple times from a rolling first gear start, and I was able to break the tires loose without the slip light flashing/VDC engaging. This was with VDC on. Shouldn't the slip light flash/VDC engage when it detects wheel spin? I mean I've seen it flash before even when I felt no wheel spin in the dry. I figure when I can actually feel the wheels break loose it should engage right?

hrm, that's a little odd...are you SURE you had VDC on? haha.

i've noticed that it gives you just a bit of spin, VERY little, before it kicks in. It is a little odd that it let you slip that much....

Yeah, I'm sure VDC was on. It seemed a bit weird since I've felt VDC engage before in the wet. Today it seemed to be completely off, but there were no illuminated indicators on the dash etc. Is there a procedure to reset the VDC system?

it lets you get away with it sometimes, i was spinning them yesterday, sometimes it comes on and vdc kicks in, sometimes it lets you slip a little more before it kicks in.

Usually it comes on immediately if there is lateral movement like in a slide though, ruins all the fun.

that's interesting, in long island its been cold but the roads are pretty clean. I seem to get the vdc to flash on every downshift.

Try doing donuts. If it's on and it's letting you do it, something's up.

I tried to test the VDC out again on my way home from work. It was dry out by this time. I went WOT in first gear and I saw the slip indicator light flash a bit as VDC attempted to keep traction. So the system seems to be working. I'll have to try it when it's wet out again. Any reason why VDC would seem to not actuate in the wet?

Not sure how our system works, but if the VDC looks at steering angle, yawl sensors and wheel spin sensors.....
If you spin the wheels equally (lsd working) and the steering wheel is straight, and you are traveling straight....the computer's calculations may not detect it. The wet road will reduce the abrupt side to side movement.

In my last car, many folks installed LSDs and noticed a lot more tire spin prior to the stability program kicking in.

Just a theory.....

I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure if VDC is supposed to engage with wheel spin while traveling in a straight line. I notice VDC engaging whenever I try to power out of a turn. My rationale was that the LSD would attempt to correct any wheel spin when accelerating in a straight line, and that VDC was most active when it detects the car not traveling on the intended path based on steering input/yaw sensor. Anyone know for sure how the VDC system is programmed to work? Also, is the 370 equipped with an electronic TCS system in addition to the VDC? Or is the VDC supposed to take care of both duties?
