Default VQ37VHR curiousity question

Hey All,

I am replacing the Timing chains and tensioners (yes, all three!), water pump, oil pump and the gallery gaskets which, by the way don't look blown out. Other than reading the FSM, I have been watching quite a few YT videos on the procedure and my question is this;

Why do some VQ's have phasers only on the intake cams (my engine 2009) and why do some have phasers on the intake and exhaust cams?

I just find this to be odd!

Oh yeah, I HATE all these damned wiring harness clips!!

It depends on what engine it is. VQ35DE, VQ35HR, or VQ37VHR

Thanks for the reply, as I stated, it was just curiousity.

As far as changing the 3 tensioners, I now know why I don't see it being done. Removing the VVEL ladder assembly to do this is a bit more than I was really asking for! Maybe one day if I change the exhaust cams but, it won't be today!

You CAN change the shoe on the drivers side without attacking the head.
But some clearance has to be cut into the inner timing cover.
I used tape and a die grinder.

Good thing that I tried the passenger side first! I came up with the idea of just changing that shoe and calling it a day!
