Why is the new 2023 z faster in the 1/4mile
Not sure if this is the right place but I recently saw an article of a new 9.92 second 1/4 mile record for a stock engine 2023 z. I'm curios how its that much faster than a tt 370z with similar or greater power with it being pretty much the same chassis. I'm asking to see if anyone has any insight just out of curiosity.

The biggest difference is the new 9AT. The VR30 can also hold more torque stock vs a VQ37.

Hang on tight. I'm going to shatter that record this coming year, hopefully in the 8.5 range. (not a 3.7 in the car... or the same transmission... oh well)

There has probably been dozens of 370z that could have run 9s on the stock engine, had the owners put forth the effort to do it.
The biggest difference with the new Z is that tons of tuners immediately started drag racing it with records in mind, straight to a drag pack and using the auto trans. Compared to the 370z, where all but a few shared timeslips were done by casual street car owners who just stopped by a track a few times at most, and it took a decade before anyone got the auto trans to handle the torque well enough. The aftermarket and tuning solutions for the new Z to run 9s mostly existed before the car did. A factory boosted car is treated a lot different in the aftermarket. |
I do know why the new Z has such a fast 1/4. My q50 that's now 6MT still has the stock redsport r190 differential with a final drive of 3.133 and holy **** does it take forever to get through the revs vs you guys 4.08 or 3.69 FD on the Zs. My top speed I got to was 164mph and im making 330whp tuned on ecutek (SEB:)) vhr motor. That's all due to the super low final drive ratio. The new Z also is a 3.13 final drive and I do believe it's also using a r190 diff except now it comes LSD where our q50 are open diffs. the lower final drives plus boost is really the way to go imo. Check out 60-130 times for fbo vr30 q50/q60 vs boosted vhrs you'll see the lower final drive is much better for boosted applications.
