Engine Swap
My apologies if this has been answered before. I'm sure it has.
I have a 2009 6MT with the dreaded oil consumption issue. I am considering doing an engine swap. A 2018 7AT engine will swap into my car, correct? My understanding is that all of the VQs are essentially identical. Can I use my existing ECU, wiring harness and trans? Other than accessories, is there anything else that I would need to swap over? Thanks! |
Everything will be identical, you'll need to use the harness, trans and ecu from your car. You'll also need to swap out the auto pilot bushing for the manual pilot bearing. Make sure to remove the auto one or you'll have shifting problems. Everything else is identical.

Don't forget about the paddle shifters.
Is there a reason you're going from M6 to A7? It's usually the other way around, and wouldn't it be easier/cheaper just to swap with another M6? |

I believe OP is just changing engine, not trans, and asking questions on engine from an auto fitting in his manual. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What is the oil consumption issue you're talking about? Asking because I have a 2009 and it doesn't consume any oil. Gallery gaskets were changed.

Thanks for the confirmation, guys. I am not swapping to the auto trans. I would just be swapping the engine itself.
Mine has always burned a little oil from day one. I didn't think much of it as it wasn't much early on. When I noticed it becoming more excessive, I did some research and discovered that there was a TSB. However, by that time, I was already out of warranty. I wish I would have known before, but of course Nissan didn't exactly advertise it. There is a huge thread on here about the issue. My understanding is that it is caused by the valve seals and piston rings. I could be wrong but the gallery gasket issue usually presents as a low oil pressure situation not consumption, correct? I have never changed those. Car has 170K on the clock and still runs great. I just have to keep topping up the oil routinely. |
